16-Bit Gems #15: Terranigma (SNES)
To wrap up our first anniversary, we have the most requested game to review from our fans. The sequel to Illusion of Gaia - Terranigma. The very definition of a hidden gem, this game never even saw a North American release. So how does it stack up to the forebear? Roo breaks it down in this special 15th episode of 16-Bit Gems.
You can watch the "companion reviews" to this one below:

legal fun fact: You have 24 hours to "demo" roms of any console. Althought after the firs t24 hours you are required by law to delete them.
Also, looks good, I'm going to go "demo" this myself...
Hahaha, the poor pizza boy! Another dynamite entry in the 16 bit gems series. I was part of the silent majority that had also hoped you would cover this title at some point in the future. And now the future has arrived and I couldn't be happier! Had seen some gameplay footage of this title on youtube after learning that there was three entries in Quintet's 'Gaia Trilogy' on the SNES.
The narration, the acting with Roo and the Commodore breaking boundaries of paranoia was most noteworthy, you guys rock! Ending clip outtake was hysterical and as someone who has made student films and videos before I bet it was one of many takes on that one :)
Roo, I'm actually playing through 'Illusion of Gaia' right now and could see exactly what you are talking about in terms of the upgraded combat mechanics. Really like the concept of having battles change depending on weather conditions in the game (sunlight vs rain, etc). Have you ever played/heard of the Gameboy Advance title 'Boktai: The Sun Is In Your Hand'? In that the power of your character would actually change depending on if you were playing the game in sunlight in real life or not thanks to a meter on the cartridge itself. A fantastic concept that would shape the boss fights against the undead tremendously.
Congratulations though on your one year Clan of the Gray Wolf anniversary Roo, Commodore, and Boomer! Can't wait to see where your work takes you and the site next, major kudos!
~ Chris
Congratulations on making it this far!
I am happy to say that the Clan of the Gray Wolf has improved greatly in its formative first year and I can only foresee more great videos and commentaries coming from you guys. :)
The review was informative and dredged up much nostalgic feeling. Unfortunate as it was to have never seen a NA release, I was one of the few fortune enough to have discovered the "Big E" almost a decade ago and put the 3 part saga to the test. 3 great games that any 16-bit gamer worth their salt must play.
Looking forward to more!
So... for the 2nd anniversary we should expect a Soulblazer review ? :P
I'm not sayin'... I'm just sayin'
:)
I just noticed...when Roo is thrown to the floor...what happened to the chair?
:)
Obviously, the force of the impact must have temporarily thrown the chair into another dimension.
Obviously...
Much like the smiley at the bottom of Arkus' post.
lol
Your cat is EXTREMELY chill about you picking him/her up so awkwardly.
The original Dragon Warrior was a big hit in America, mostly because it was given out. :-P I loved DQ4 and 3, of course. But even at the time I knew they weren't that popular.
Great review. Looks like an awesome game. :)
I got my Dragon Warrior from renewing my Nintendo Power subscription.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, but maybe it was because I wasn't out anything to own it . . . . . hmmmm . . . . Nah, it was fun.
This review is one of my favs, actually all the RPG 16 bit gems are the best for me
The joke at the beginning is good too, you should add some more of those in future vids, but don't go crazy with them like the AVGN and forget about the game entirely
And 30 years later, Japan still thinks we're just a bunch of knuckle draggers when it comes to games.

Yeah, Terranigma is my second favorite SNES game of all time, right after Earthbound. Secret of Evermore being my third.
And Terranigma is in my top 10 games of all time.
Damn spam...
Looks like this is the user movie of the week good work guys.
I like how you guys do not condone piracy but are willing to make an exception for a game like this.
Even though it does not take any expensive hardware to play this game in america. I myself was wanting to play this game and thought about piracy but with a little research I came across a cheap way to play it on an American console with an american TV. With a little bit of looking you can get a copy of the game in English (this is the only hard part) then do a bit of modding on your SNES and you follow an easy guide and presto Terranigma on American SNES.
Where did you get your shirt? It's awesome.
