16-Bit Gems #17: Castlevania - Rondo of Blood (TG-CD)

There have been many great Castlevania games over the years, but would you believe that one of the best hasn't been available to the West until very recently?  Roo takes up the mantle of perhaps the greatest action-oriented Castlevania game in order to show everyone what they've been missing.  Throw out your FMV games, plug in your CD peripheral, and get ready to explore the checkered past of Rondo of Blood!

Yes , the PSP remake also includes SotN so it's a must own :)

I played this a couple months ago, I wasn't very good at it, but it was very fun. And the intro always made me lol, German language and Japanese subtitles?

Atleast I think it was German, something like that.

All I know is it had Japanese subtitles.

What was I babling about???

I hope you also review Castlevania Bloodline soon. I love that game a lot and I'll buy it right away if it ever gets on the Virtual Console. I still need to buy Rondo of Blood and Adventure ReBirththough. I think I haven't boughten either is Rondo of Blood still isn't in English (I know it's kinda a stupid reason  not to buy it but I really would prefer some kind of english translation) and Adventure ReBirth...I don't know.  I just keep forgetting.

Also Iron Blue Intention from Bloodlines I think is better than a lot of Rondo of Blood's music, just saying.

Actually Roo, I found out why google translate didn't translate it.

I am an apsiring learner of Japanese (still n00bish), but I have to use online translators often. Google Translate only translates if the text is in Japanese script (you know kanji, kata, kana, etc.?). But yeah the game translates to: Devil's Castle Dracula X : Rondo of Blood.

But I prefer spouting Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo (BTW, here is the title written as it should be: 悪魔城ドラキュラX 血の輪廻). It gains me much more nerd cred :D.

It is german and in the video section in the video he says:

Nach einhundert Jahren, ist das Böse wiederauferstanden

Which translates to:

After one hundred years, the evil has risen again

Cheers,

Waldgeist

Great Episode! I don't think I've ever seen a TG16 in stores here in Holland, it's a shame I guess..

Whoa, I had no idea they put

Whoa, I had no idea they put Castlevania trivia on Star Wars CCG cards. :-P

I had no idea it was available on Virtual Console. Definitely gonna pick it up when I got a couple bucks to burn. :)

No mention of a crucial fact!

Ok I sincerely hope I am not the first one to point this out; the Sony PSP revamp of Rondo called Castelvania: the Dracula X Chronicles Contains 3 full unlockable games:

1:  Akumajyo Dracula Peke a mini-game that came with the Original Castlevania: Rondo of Blood that played instead of Rondo of Blood if the user was using the wrong kind of graphic card.

2: The Sony Playstation version of Castlevania Symphony Of The Night. The reason I personally Bought both the game and the Sony PSP!

BUT(T)

The third unlockable game is the COMPLETE Original version of Rondo of blood with ENGLISH subtitles

A fact I really missed in the review! Otherwise; A+

3 Masterpieces on this little UMD guys, GOT GET IT!

First Play

I admit, my first play with Rondo of Blood was on the PSP remake. It reminded me of the classic "memory gaming" style from the 80's and 90's. Every inch forward brings a smile.
