16-Bit Gems #19: The Lost Vikings (SNES, Genesis/Mega Drive)
Vikings, time travel, and rocking out. It's your standard video game plot from the early 90's - but Blizzard Entertainment went the extra mile in bringing these elements together to create one of the first ever example of the puzzle platformer. And in doing so, gave a hint of their masterpieces to come. So join in for a look at Blizzard's early past in The Lost Vikings, a game released on... just about everything.

Another great review, Roo!
I remember seeing this game back in the day and thinking "Vikings? Meh."
Looks like something I would have had fun playing. I might have to try it out sometime.
So what's on tap for the big 2-0?
Or are you gonna hold off 'til #25 to do a special episode? . . . . . As long as it's not a "very special" special.
You know, like "Tune in next time for a very special Full House when Danny tackles Michelle's alcoholism."
No, #20's going to be a special one. Actually one I wanted to do as #15 originally, but Terranigma won out for its concurrance with the 1 year anniversary. I guess I should do something special for #25 though too. Hmmm...
Heh, it's a real treat to see the Lost Vikings get some love.
Also, thanks for the credit at the end, Roo. <3
Are you going to do a review of Genghis Khan II: Clan of the Gray Wolf? Seems like your name came from there.
Oh, and I hope you didn't forget about Painful Memories.
Thanks bro, keep up the good vids.
Nice job Roo, as usual! :D
Another great review Roo!, you just brought back a lot of memories to me
I Live in Argentina, and i´m a collector myself (although is a little harder to find rare games here...) Your reviews are really good, you should keep up the good work!
I send you my best regards.
Víctor.
Thanks for the encouragment guys, it's always much appreciated.
And thanks for the logo, Hidoshi. I love it and I've heard nothing but good things since its reveal. You should all check out markptjan.com to see more of what he can do.
Also, I wouldn't be too surprised to see a Genghis Khan 2 review at some point sooner or later.
And now for something completely different... there must be something wrong with me. I actually thought the Sprint commercial at the end of the video was pretty funny. When did Blip start using good commercials?
I just received Illusion of Gaia!!! I bought it via ebay and received it today!
I bought it because of your review Roo! Thanks!!!
This just occurred to me . . .
#25 could be your Ghengis Khan review.
25th anniversaries are typically "silver" anniversaries.
Gray is pretty close to the color silver.
Seems appropriate, anyway.
I haven't had a chance to watch yet, but the thumbnail makes me LMAO.
Oh, Metzen, what would we do without you? Or what would you do without Red Shirt Guy is the question...
Hey Roo great review! I wanted to mention that you could pass the screen in 2-player mode by pressing 'L' and 'R' at the same time (at least on the SNES version). This was one of my favorite 2 player co-op games growing up! I highly recommend giving the 2 player a revisit!
This one is most definitely a gem. I kind of forgot about it to be honest. This game is incredibly 90s.... and you reminded the viewer of that at all the right moments. ComixZone is still the king of 90s Genesis games though. Solid review.
I played this game when I was in middle school, and I don't think I've laugh so hard when I die. Another rental of mine this game was also vary hard near the end, you really have to use your brain. Enjoyable, everyone should play this game just for the sheer amount of deaths you'll rack up, and the goofy things they say when you start the level over.
Good Stuff :)
I'm only 3 minutes into this review and I already want this game! Not only that but I have to pause the video to find all the other games this pre-blizzard made!! I was a huge blizzard fan before they went all MMORPG and remember wiling away endless hours playing Starcraft (the original) on bent.
