16-Bit Gems #9: Aladdin (SNES, Genesis/Mega Drive)

Roo takes on the irate gamers of the world in order to prove that just because a game (or two) is licensed after a hit movie, it doesn't mean it should be given a shoddy review.

In this episode, we have two reviews in one.  First, the hidden gem of Aladdin for the Super Nintendo, which is then compared with the much more critically acclaimed Aladdin for the Sega Genesis.  Which one wins out, the forgotten or the favorite?  And what can be done to stem the tide of undeserving negative nostalgic reviews?  With an epic speech, anything is possible.

BWAHAHAHAHA That's right thinly veiled offensive stereotype! that was awesome. By the way, that looked more like Hiss from Robin Hood than Kaa.

If I'm not mistaken, Hiss and Kaa are the same Disney character.

There were alot of Jungle Book characters in Robin Hood.

Shinji Mikami, the guy who made the SNES Aladdin game, is also the guy who made Resident Evil.

Makes ya think.

And while Kaa and Hiss are largely the same characters, mainly because the cells for the Jungle Book were reused a lot in Robin Hood (look it up, it's actually hilarious), I think this counts more as Hiss because of the pink hat.

I disagree sir

I've got to say, I believe the SNES to be the better overall package. I prefered the level design, music, gameplay style, controls and overall graphical package much more than the Genesis version.

Hardcore or just dumb?

I also remembered this game to be awesome, two years ago I bought it for my GF (this was her favorite snes game) and we played it again. We spent a wonderful sunday playing and trying to get all the gems and things like that.

I never even considered the sheet... either I didn't remember it from my youth or I was an idiot since then. We finished the game, got all the red gems... and never used the gliding sheet. So you can imagine my surprise after seeing the sheet in your review.

So... am I a hardcore player? Or just a really dumb one?.

You are a great reviewer Mr. Roo. Keep up the good work.

Movie games...

When I complain about movie based games, I always give Alladin a well deserved exception.... and The Last Crusade on the Amiga... and Super Star Wars... and... hmmm...
