Re: Are you open to suggestions for Echo Screen topics?
I like this idea...good movies require good stories, and I think the reason most games fail to make the basis of a good movie is the fundemental lack of a story. Mortal Kombat is an excellent example of this problem.
Hmmm...some ideas: Metal Gear Solid, Portal, Bioshock, God of War maybe...

I have an idea for a topic. Maybe you could have a discussion about what you think about all these retro styled games. Ever since Mega Man 9 there's been a big surge in classic 8-bit styled games. Do you think that this genre is getting cliche or do you think it should keep going? Honestly I would like to see some 16-bit styled games rather than 8-bit styled. Don't get me wrong, I love the 8-bit styled games but I want to see some 16-bit action.

That's a great topic Kaboomie, and actually I believe it's one we've been throwing around. It seems like there's a lot of nostalgia-themed games floating around nowadays (and movies too of course). There's a lot of delving into the common psyche that could be done there. After all, yesterday's NES generation are today's young professionals (or shut-ins living in their parent's basement...).
Of course. All suggestions are welcome.

Well, how about discussing what it would take to make a GOOD movie based off of a
video game?
And, if they ever start getting the formula right, what video game would you like to see
turned into a movie?

@Roo: Really? Any suggestion is welcome?
@Boomer: >implying MK had much of a story to begin with.
I gave up on video game movies, the people that make them don't play games, it's proven in the crap we've gotten to this point.
At least comic book movies are getting better.
I don't think they'll start making goods ones till someone comes out and makes a stellar entry which grosses millions.
Usually they're made just to create a small profit for shareholders by circumventing tax laws through the creative medium (a la Uwe Boll).
Uwe Boll only made vidya game movies because Germany gives tax write-offs to comerical film makers that make flop movies.
That law has been removed from the books, hence why he stopped making movies.
well, he didn't stop, he just slowed down...the new bloodrayne movie is in post production
Is it me, or is this topic flying around the internet a lot lately. The same question just went out on LTA

How about really hyped sequels and games that failed to meet their expectations.
You mean like The Conduit Airblade?
Like any Peter Molyneux game?
Oh, burn!

You know, I really do miss Bullfrog.
I think "Lionhead Studios" was the perfect developer name for Molyneux. The lion is quite a prideful animal, no?
What if all that pride goes to one's head?
Looking at recent Steam sales reminds me of one gigantic disappointment. Deus Ex 2. The Invisible war, such drivel.
Revive a dead thread time:
Have you ever though of perhaps (Probably a few months after the vitas release) of doing an echo screen on the portable console wars?

How about doing a movie about the game developers and their wars?

my only concern with that one is the sheer number of developers there are/have been
maybe if you narrow the scope, and debate about the main names of the era, and some of the underapreciated, that one could work

The climactic scene should be a wii lightsaber battle...

Well Boomer, the topic of the next Echo Screen (or Stream) was supposed to be graphics v. storytelling.
I know you guys are busy, so whenever it happens, I'll watch.
