That is destined to be one of THE classic strategy games of the modern era. I have so many good memories of playing that game, but you need some friends to play, and you need to be prepared to spend a whole day on it (at least for the first few times you play.)

Axis and Allies.... ~sigh~ I

Axis and Allies.... ~sigh~ I refuse to play that, largely because of the torment I endured at the hands of my friends. First time playing it, I end up playing Japan. "Their only real purpose is to beat pearl harbour then hole up, so it's easy to learn on" or so they said.

Apparently I'm the first person any of them ever saw loose Pearl Harbour in something like 2 turns.

From what i remember though, it is a fun game. In terms of global war games though, I think my favourite is the now out of print Supremacy.

It's a very well developed

It's a very well developed strategy game, and once you get the game down, there are lots of expansions/mods available. Generally, the best strategist does tend to win the game, so long as everyone has an equal understadning of the game.  And my friends and I have played it as an "alternate history" which makes ifun as well.

The technological, military and economic aspects of the game make it interesting and replayable.

If you're up for it, I'd be interested in posting an article/blog post by you describig your first time playing the game, what you and your friends thought of it, and what you liked and disliked about it.

I should note that while I

I should note that while I like RTS, I LOVE turn-based strategy games. The biggest problem I have with RTS, is that, in my own real-life experiences, soliders need alot less monitoring than computer soldiers, the micro/macro "game" is less satisfying than real temwork, and sometimes an RTS can feel more like a management game than a truly tactical one.

my general strategy for axis

my general strategy for axis and allies: purchase infantry. This is especially true for russia (its pretty much the only thing you should build the whole game, just like actual ww2!), and germany.

The newest axis and allies has some changes im not accustomed to, but ya purchasing infantry.....live by it.

As for SC2, i thought the campaign was kinda weak. Each mission was unique from a gameplay standpoint, but the story was just so much worse compared to SC and Brood War.
