http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/21531/more-on-the-blade-runner-follow-up
This will probably interest some folks here, as the original Blade Runner was one of the choices in the Echo Screen Top Geek Movies. It's official that Ridley Scott is planning on another Blade Runner movie, sometime after he's finished with the we're-saying-it's-not-really-a-prequel-even-though-it-more-or-less-is to Alien, Prometheus.
We don't really know what this movie will be though, except they have specifically said it will not be a remake, so at least that sigh of relief can be had. We also got this comment from producer Andrew Kosove- "If you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention, and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."
The word 'reinvention' always concerns me, and sometimes it's also used to try and hide the fact that they're starting all over again. In other words, it's often just Buzz Word Bullshit™.
But still, what do you think about a new movie? What....would it be about? What should it be about? Even with SCott helming it, should it still even be made?

This thing. Fuck it.

When I heard about it I laughed so hard because it's one of the ones they (Commodore, Roo, and Boomer) said they never wanted remade.
Good thing it's not a remake then! >D
Again, it's unknown what this movie will be about, exactly, so....time will tell there.

Noooooo......
please?
please don't do this Mr. Scott
You know, this is curious...Ridley Soctt has futz about with blade runner for years. I think there are about seven different versions of the film. I wonder if he wants to tell a new story that touches on the same themes as the original, but after so many years of directing, he has a more cohesive vision.
At least, I hope that's the case. Because if it's just an excuse to advance the existing story and show Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer, I'm going to be sorely disappointed.

I'm embarrassed to say I haven't seen the first one. Which is strange since I usually watch all scifi movies I can get my hands on. Be it good or bad.

Truth be told, I want a remake of Metropolis.

So, there hasn't been much news at all about this lately; I suppose because Scott has been working on Prometheus. Supposedly though, Harrison Ford may be 'in talks' to be in the sequel....despite the fact that he had issues working on the original movie, as the article mentions.
So, enh, I denno, take it with a grain of salt, I suppose. There...just hasn't been anything else to say about this movie lately! :/

Well Blade Runner was loosely based off a book, and that book had sequels. Possibly follow the canon of the books?
They could do that. but I kind of doubt they will. I'm guessing if Scott really wants to do this, he'll probably make something up himself; he doesn't usually make books into films. True, Hannibal was an exception, but, well, the Blade Runner sequel, was a sequel to the movie, not Philip K. Dick's original work, Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Human, isn't....terribly well-received, from what I know. I kind of doubt Scott would make a film from that. Despite what many think of his version of Hannibal, at least it was based on a best-seller. :/

Maybe that's what hollywood is doing wrong!
Movie based off of cherished best sellers usually turn out mediocre at best. Maybe if they went the other way and took mediocre books and made them into movies it would turn out blockbusters?

I don't know, if it's a bad book, I wouldn't want it to be a movie unless they changed it a whole lot; in which case, it might as well be called something other than what it's supposed to be. :P

Worked for Bond.

Oh SNAP!
And while I'm sure my father would disagree, worked for Clancy as well. Found his books very dry, but loved the movies.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a really baaaad Ridley Scott SciFi movie, so I actually wouldn't mind him doing another Blade Runner.

Well, yeah, because so far the only sci-fi movies he's done are Alien and Blade Runner! >D

http://twitchfilm.com/news/2012/02/breaking-harrison-ford-in-early-talks...
Fortunately they are not talking about bringing back Harrison Ford for t his movie. After seeing him all gray haired in Indiana Jones, don't want to see him as a gray haired Decker. With that being said, this will be a sequal not a remake, so I am actually exciting with this franchise being revived.
Cyberpunk is going to make a come back in movies and games!
....actually, they are talking about bringing Ford back. The....article you linked to says that, as does the link I posted before. Did you...make a typo? :P

It said their were initial talks, however it's unlikely.
"Twitch has learned that Harrison Ford has entered into early talks to join the new Blade Runner. While this is still very early stages and it is quite possible that things won't work out the obvious implication is that what we are looking at is not a reboot but a direct sequel to the original."
I'm not sure if that means they are going todo a sequal without Decker, or just with someone else as the actor. Seems to me the implication is either HF is too old, or that the story may follow different characters.
Honestly I would rather see different characters.
Well, yeah, but it seems they're trying to get him to come back. Given the problems Ford expressed in working on the first movie, I don't know how liklely it is. :/
Also, I forgot that your link does post a comment made in the Summer, saying that Ford is not being considered. I guess that's what you were referring to! Sorry about that. :P My bad! But, I guess they actually possibly are trying to talk to him, if this news bite is being sent out now? Hmmm...
That's just it though; what would another movie even be about? If not even about Deckard....then who? And if with Ford back as Deckard...well, I guess there is some stuff he could still do that might be interesting, but...I like the way the movie ended. It's all you really need.
This movie may not be 'bad' by definition, especially with Scott back on it, but...I do wonder a lot...

I guess I'm more intrigued then excited at this point. Really with the movie being so old at this point they can break off into any number of directions. Has anyone heard or seen anything about the script that is being submitted?
Double post, new iPad. Difficulties.
There are no new details yet, nope. I think mainly because Scott has been working on Prometheus, so he likely hasn't had much time to mull over it much. This last news about Ford is...pretty much the only real 'update' for this story, so far. :/

"Kosove said they didn’t want in any way to disparage an iconic actor like Ford, but it certainly sounds as though they do not plan to continue his story line"
Sounds good to me! Sounds like this movie is years away though.
Another double post, no idea why that is happening..
Yeah, just....makes you wonder what exactly they do plan to do. :/

Let's hope it's going to be good. I used to be a hater with these things but now I rather just wait, watch, think then give my opinion.

I generally don't tend to favor a lot of things like this, right off the bat. Blade Runner is a great example of a movie that just doesn't need a sequel, at all. That was my initial thought. I'm also just tired of all the completely pointless remakes and start-overs, most of which are nothing but soulless cash-grabs (at least, in intention). I don't think that every sequel or redux, by definition, is or will be 'bad,' but I don't tend to have many high hopes or expectations.
However, since Scott wants to be back on board, that's where my immediate interest would reside here. I...still don't know what the point of a sequel would be, especially without Deckard...But then again, what would another movie with Deckard be like? So, yeah, I'll just wait and see, too.

@Shirow: See? 2 for 2. Perfect score. Much better than his track record for Historical dramas. Ach. Gladiators. Ach. His take on Columbus.

So maybe what they need to make is a Blade Runner "like" movie not a sequel. So people don't expect too much. These sequels sometimes tend to be good but the expectations are what makes them end up being bad.

Eh, depending on what they did and how they did it, then people might just call it a 'rip-off,' or just wonder why Scott just didn't do an actual follow-up or something. I see what you mean though, but...yeah. :/
http://movies.ign.com/articles/121/1218243p1.html
So, Scott himself has made some comments on this now! Hey, news is picking up a little lately! But...even Scott himself doesn't know what this movie is going to be, or if Ford will be in it or not. He expresses wanting to have Ford return, saying, "nothing would please me more. Honestly." So, they may not actually be talking to Ford right now, which....would make sense if they don't even know what this movie is going to be, but maybe they will later. They don't seem to have many, if any, real definite story ideas. So, this definitely answers your question, Kefka, on whether there are any more story details; nope. None at all. Even Scott doesn't know yet.
In fact, now Scott also says they're "still in discussions about whether it should be a prequel or sequel." So....while originally the story was that it's a sequel....it may not be afterall? Maybe they're just leaving the possibility open so they can change their minds which...well, if they feel they have a good enough idea, makes sense. Hmmmm...
...then at the end of the article, Scott also comments he's "thinking about what the hell I might do for a Prometheus 2." Ho boy. >D

"Shadowrun" as a movie could be cool.
So they want to make another movie but don't know what it is going to be about? Usually you have at least a rough draft of what you want the movie to be.

Well. Yeah, but they haven't written it yet. They're in very early stages right now. :P It's unclear when this movie would really get rolling. Will it even be Scott's next project? I'm not sure if he even knows yet.

...I don't know, given the track record of Dune movies, maybe it's a good thing that one was scrapped? While I think both the movie and Sci-Fi versions have their fans (yes, there are definitely fans out there of the original movie. Accept it. :P), they also do get a lot of general flack from book fans. I'm not saying a good movie can't be done though, just...you know. :P
Nah, nothing is set quite yet. There may not be much more news about this for a while then. We'll see what Scott does after Prometheus opens, this Summer.

Possibly. He has no interest that I've ever heard. Afterall, it wasn't written by Tolkien! :O But, he might. It probably does depend on how much he actually cares about the source. I mean, look at Starship Troopers again; Peter Verhoeven didn't even read the book.....And it shows.
