I'm throwing the glove down.
I'm taking ALL OF YOU on at chess...as a community.
The rules are simple.
1) Anyone can log in and make a move.
2) Using a computer to beat me is forbidden...and lame.
3) I'll play against the first legal move as disregard the rest. In exchange, you have to wait for me to post my next move.
4) If we have to use notation, we'll use Algebraic Notation
Fair?
Also...can someone find a program or something that will make it convenient to display the chessboard in the forums?
If I win, I get to brag shamelessly. If you win, we'll negotiate a reasonable forfeit.

I will lose horriably but I accept your challenge...and no I can think of no program that would allow easy viewing of a chessboard in the forum...
I'm a writer for a reason. >_<

Aestolia's image is a lot smoother, and it has references for the squares, so it should be a lot easier.
Also, I understand what your saying, Aestolia, but it is still fairly early in the game, and I did leave time for other people to make moves if they wanted.

I'll claim the first move:
1. e4
First person to post the next move, makes the next move.
A possible solution for forum chess.

Ok, for black's first move: 1.KgP e7 -> e6 (Hoping to god that's the right notations. Never had to use them before)

Boomer, two things.
A) my chessboard is a mirror image of the chess board simulator thing you're using. As such, it's either going to be useless, or best left to me to edit it.
B) According to the chess thing you were using, and my intended move, was to move the kings pawn forward 1. How did it move forward 2?

Young-blood, you go ahead and keep the forum board updated. It's more useful than the app I'm using.
I just realized that I was reading the board upside down. I jumped in to edit the board. Embarrassing...
That's how it got messed up.

And, atm, The chessboard can't be updated (The message edit screen is giving me the parameters rather than the actual message).
I'll make a post about it on the errors thread, but the game will have to be on hold until then.

Alright, I don't think the forum chessboard is going to be up and running any time soon (from what I can tell, it's either not a simple fix, or the problem has really thrown roo for a loop), so I'm going to suggest you go back to the program Boomer was using before.
Oh, and Q d8-b6

I just saw this. I was starting to despair. I'll edit in a move this week.

Ok, it seems that the change in text box has managed to fix the chessboard as well.
The downside is that the comment with it in has a huge blank space before the board now.
Although I would suggest that Boomer keeps his board up to date as a back-up.

1) e4 e 6
2) f4 c6
3) Nf3 Qb6
4)Nc3
I realize now that with a ll the confusion about the board, I botched my opening. Oh well.

Just noticed - atm it's been just you and me boomer. Maybe we should rename the thread?

I wanted to try this when I saw it, but then I remembered I haven't played chess since 8th grade and I barely made it through my college's "Math for the liberal arts" course. (AKA as Math for people who suck at it or have the attention span of- Oh cool a butterfly!)
If anyone wants to make a scrabble thread though, I'm game. English/Writing Major here.
I'm not sure if anyone would prefer this, but I made up this quick board that I can keep updated with each move. It should take up less space than the text one, and would be easier for some people to read I think.
>>Edited to remove image as it's now in the tracking post <<
As a side note, Young Blood I know that the reason I haven't posted a move is because I don't know what kind of a player you are, what your style is. Bringing a broken or uncoordinated strategy to a chess game is not something I'd ever recommend.

Aestolia, thanks alot for the new board! Sorry for the long delay...I've completely forgotten what my strategy was...
Next move:

Since you've lost your strategy, perhaps I'll jump in with a move of my own then :p

As a note for everyone, I will be changing the Image slightly to make a note of what the last move shown on the image is. If for some reason you don't see the most up to date image, try opening the image in a new tab, forcing it to reload as you may have an old cached copy.
Also I think it's Ctrl+F5 to force a page reload, that should work as well.

Boomer, should we take the death of this thread as a forfeit, or just forgetfulness?

Bishop to D2.
I promise you that I haven't forgotten about the thread. I can't offer any good excuses, other than to say I've not been paying attention to the website lately because the demands of job & family & social life have been very time consuming lately.
What's nice about a forum thread game, though, is that it persists. Which s why I wanted to play this format. It's like leaving the chess board out on the table and playing a move once in awhile.

Totally understand that boomer. I fell off the site myself too long ago, and brought myself back on a weekly wringer. Then though "Is that chess game still going"

It's kind of odd to me that, despite throwing the glve down to the whole clan, it's really just you and Aestolia playing.

Personally I feel kind of bad about playing since I'm maintaining the board. It's feels like I have a chance to move before anyone else looks at it :p

Anyone familiar with Knightmare Chess?
It's a fun way to change up regular chess a bit using cards similar to Magic. I've only played with the first edition cards, but there's a second as well.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knightmare_chess
I think, as aestolia said earlier in the thread, I started out leaving time for other people to make moves, but I've made so many of them that I'm almost the only person who knows whats going on and everyone else isn't willing to make moves anymore
However, if after the first game, we wipe the board and start again, I will not be making a single move as pennance for taking over the black team.
Knight F6->H5 btw

I don't really like chess, but when the moves are played out with letters and numbers I am at a loss.

MWM: That's why I've been keeping an image of the board up to date at the top of this thread.
Alright Young-blood, i'll put aside my feeling a bit cheesy and probably make a few more moves :p
Maybe something like.... THIS!

uhh... I'm going to assume you meant F4 since you have no bishop capable of d4, and it's your own pawn on d4.
so to that I say
