Honest to God, I'm playing Rock Band in my sleep

So I know for a fact that at least the Commodore and I have woken up a few times this past week thinking we were in the middle of the marathon still, scaring whoever else we happen to be sleeping with at the time.  Our mental health is now a shambles because of this marathon, but it was totally worth it.  Because of you guys, we earned over $2,000 for Child's Play, which is a feat I honestly didn't expect to meet considering we're just 6 guys with an Xbox and a dream.  And the experience itself was the most fun we've had in a long time.  It was especially great to meet so many interesting people in the chat.  We all hope to keep in contact as days go by (insert Family Matters reference here).

After talking things over with Boomer and the Commodore, a 2nd annual Rock Band-a-thon certainly seems like it's on the horizon.  The great thing is that we've learned so much from this first go around that the next rendition should have a lot of improvements.  For example:

   - We need higher bandwidth to handle all you viewers out there.  We promise next year you'll be able to make out our faces.
   - Prizes - We'll have some raffles for donations.
   - Sponsors - Now that we have a track record of doing this, getting sponsors should be possible.

And that's just some of the ideas.  But rest assured we're already on it, and when we have everything set up, we'll be letting you know when the next marathon will be.  So, in closing out this year's marathon activity, I'd like to again thank everyone who made this possible.  We really couldn't have gotten this far without everyone's help.

In the meantime, we have a few special vlogs coming out before the new year.  Not to mention at least a couple more 16-Bit Gems, Echo Screens, and - dare I say it - the return of Boomer's House Rules?  We'll see you out there.

Rock Band-a-thon for Child's Play

We would like to thank everyone who helped make our first 1,000 Song Rock Band-a-thon a success!  Over 48,400 unique views, 70 hours, 2500 viewers at our peak (before our stream crashed - oops), and most importantly $2,005 raised for Child's Play.  If you missed out on the marathon, you can watch highlights either on our Ustream or YouTube channels.  And our ChipIn widget on the right side of the page will be active until the 6th of December.  So just because the marathon's over doesn't mean you can't still contribute to Child's Play.  Don't stop believing!

We'd like to thank the following people and organizations who helped make all this possible:

     - Child's Play, for lifting the spirits of so many sick children over the past 6 years and helping show the compassionate side of gamers (special thanks to Kristin Lindsay for being a great point of contact for us)
     - Harmonix, for making a series of games that are interesting enough to build a whole marathon off of
     - The 6 members of our core group, who rocked on with very little sleep for almost three days, especially Michael, Matt, and Chris, who came in from out of town to help
     - Our special guests: Luke, Jessica, Patrick, Mike, and Ashley, who came in to play some songs and spell the rest of us.  Whether it was for 4 songs or 40, you helped take some of the pressure off
     - Dane Byers, for lending us high quality audio equipment that brought up our production quality
     - David Anderson, for hosting our website not only for the marathon, but since its inception
     - Ustream, who not only hosted our stream but also brought us much attention by making us a featured show on their main page (causing a few crashes due to volume - but that's a problem we didn't mind having to deal with)
     - ENworld, The Escapist, Joystiq, and all the other websites and blogs that helped spread the word
     - All the chat room folks who kept us going - especially the long timers like Lelouch, Pokey, Ssskinner, b1gguy, ralasinchains, and all the others (I know I'm forgetting people) who handled the common questions that people would have while we were away from the chat
     - And course, Charlene.  We can never forget you, no matter how hard we try.

Rock Band-a-thon FAQ

Starting November 27, the day after Thanksgiving, we will hold a 1,000 song Rock Band Marathon for charity.  All proceeds will be given to Child's Play, which is a charity that donates toys, games, and books to children's hospitals worldwide.  You will notice a ChipIn widget in the right sidebar that will allow you to donate money directly to Child's Play using PayPal.  This will be active on the site from now until December 6.

The rules of the game:
     - We will begin on Friday, November 27, 2009, 9 AM EST
     - The entirety of the marathon will be broadcast live via streaming video provided by Ustream
     - There will be 6 principal gamers involved, coming and going at various times (some of us will have to sleep eventually)
     - 3 people will be playing the game at all times (one each on guitar, drums, and vocals)
     - A 4th person will be available to read and interact with viewers on a live chat
     - We won't stop until we've played 1,000 songs in a row from Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and some DLC (repeats of songs will be allowed)
     - We will take requests, but only with a minimum donation of $25.  Be sure to make a comment that goes along with the donation via ChipIn telling us what song you'd like us to play.  You can find a list of available songs here.
     - Each player will be able to chose their own difficulty level (minimim difficulty of medium)
     - We estimate the entirety of the marathon will last a minimum of 72 hours
     - This url will contain the live stream, so if you share this page, it will be the same one active on November 27
     - You can find our publicity page here
     - If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments or send us an e-mail
