Echo Screen #13: TV Remakes
In part 2 of a series on remakes in popular media, the guys take some time to ponder the TV show updates they'd most like to see... in addition to celebrating the best and painfully recalling the worst that have already been made. Why was Battlestar Ga-remake-tica so popular? Should they ever revamp Seinfeld? And what series made Boomer's massive "most wanted remakes" list? Sit down and grab your TV dinner while the Clan of the Gray Wolf tackles television remakes!
In this episode:
0:00 - Intro & Why so many TV shows are being remade
12:00 - Successful remakes
25:00 - Not so successful remakes
32:00 - Remakes we'd like to see
41:30 - Remakes we don't want to see

R.I.P. Lou Albano
Sadly, an icon of both wrestling and late 80's video game-based children's television, "Captain" Lou Albano, died today at the (surprisingly old) age of 76. I can't speak much to his probably more well known career as a wrestler, but I, along with many children of the 80's, will hardly forget his role as Mario (in both the live action and cartoon segments) on the "Super Mario Bros. Super Show".
To many, he was our first representation of Mario as more than a paltry few pixels on the screen - giving him a voice - and so he earns a nostalgic place in the hearts of many. Yeah, the cartoon was pretty crappy, the live action segments campy as hell, and the rap-style intro theme silly, but you all know you kept watching anyway. And Albano's surprisingly energetic performance did lift the experience as much as can be expected.
And so, as we close the chapter on another part of our childhoods, I hope you will all join me in Albano's greatest contribution to Mario lore, and "do the Mario". Come on now. Just like that.
50 Years of Twilight
... and no, I don't speak of vampires. Well, at least not any that sparkle in the sun.
Today is the 50th anniversary of the first episode of the Twilight Zone. Not often does a TV series come along that can truly be considered classic. But if the Twilight Zone does not define classic television, I don't know what does. These stories are timeless. Here I am, born decades after the show ended, and I still count it as one of my favorite series ever. Whenever I'm cycling around the channels looking for something to watch, this is one of the few shows I'll stop on, no matter the episode. That should be anybody's definition of a great show.
Echo Screen #5: What's Wrong with the Syfy Channel?
Have you watched the Sci-Fi... I mean Syfy channel lately? Of course not, because it sucks hardcore. But why? Wasn't there a day and age when the Sci-Fi channel was actually pretty good? The guys from the Clan of the Gray Wolf weigh in on the things that were once great about the Sci-Fi channel, the (seemingly endless) things that they've done wrong, and a few suggestions about how to make things more interesting (read: watchable) in the future. Is the fate of the Syfy channel more Battlestar Galactica, or Law and Order SVU? You decide, as the Clan of the Gray Wolf (repeatedly) attacks the Syfy channel. Anybody feel like watching some wrestling?
