To be honest, this could be appropriate for about 75% of RPG's, but dark cloud is my game of choice, and where this happened, so.
Anyway, I've been playing for about 7 hours now. I've taken a rapier, through evilcise, and I'm about to finally get my drain seeker. I know I'm going to level up on the next enemy I fight, so I status break my second best sword on there, put the gems I basically sold EVERYTHING to get at this point on, and charge my windmill slash it. Dragon dies, and my sword breaks. Worst part is, I hadn't saved since before I even got the rapier. Either I carry on with nothing, or go back 7 hours to when I haven't got the things I need to even attempt for the drain seeker, as well as being back to the start of the dungeon I'm working through.
Long story short, I spend the rest of the weekend sitting in the corner and speaking in tongues.
Worst thing is, Dark Cloud is my favourite game, and I haven't had the heart to touch it since then.

That really sucks. I have Dark Cloud, and really liked it, but never got past the first village. The breaking weapons thing really tended to happen at the worst times.
Reminds me of when I was playing Zelda: Link's Awakening, and I got to the 4th dungeon and got stuck. Like, really stuck. I wound up calling the Nintendo Power hotline and they told me it was the only spot in any Zelda game where if you use a key in another door instead of the "correct" door, you'll get stuck. I had to restart the whole game.

Well, if you ever try it again (and I would suggest you do, but I love the game so much, I've bought it three times - Don't ask- so I'm a little biased), remember, auto repair powder is your friend. As is the dagger (free synthspheres rule).
I remember that. I just had trouble with that game, when you had to do the pegasus boots - roc feather jumps. I could never time them right.

Holy shit... really? I beat Zelda for the GB with not getting stuck like that.
Link's Awakening sure was a difficult game back then... it was really frustrating at some point if you didn't know what to do.
I think my problem is that I tend to explore a lot in these games, so if I get a key in a room, and there's a locked door in the same room, I'll be all, "Hey, I want to check out all the other rooms before I move on".
I guess I just found another locked door to use the key in that the designers figured most people would have come to later on when they found another key or something.

...Are you kidding me?
I never knew that was a glitch. I got stuck in that game YEARS ago and never could figure out how to beat the dungeon.
I only played Dark Cloud 2 and that game was pretty frustrating, yes.
Dark cloud... They really shouldn't have had the weapon breaking and disappearing system. You arent going to save after losing your sword of extra power full epicness. You are going to re load. I only got to the last boss in dark cloud, he was a cowardly bastard and I couldn't figure out how he worked.
Dark cloud 2 or dark chronicles as it was named here, is one of my favorit games. I liked how you uppgraded your weapon rather then your self. And the dungeon crawling, I like dungeon crawling and this game hit a sweet spot for that, not to heavy not to light. The combat was fairly ballanced as well with the excpetion of Max's charge attack being the superior of the two.
I don't know how many games where I would make it through hours of playing and then BAM, something happens to cause me to realize, I haven't saved it and now must go ALL THE WAY BACK! This happens to a lot of other things, such as VBulletin forum posts, where this one time I was pouring my heart out in some love & relationship post (it was a conversation over our particular reasons for why we love our significant other) and wouldn't you know it? The internet cuts off while I was putting in the finishing touches, I spent 30-40 minutes straight of typing out all kinds of things and my reactions to certain little things that girls would do. As soon as I posted it, gone, I tried to go back, empty box (sometimes depending on the situation you could get your text back in full), no draft saved, anyways, the reason why I bring that up...
When you pour your heart and all your energy into something, it's going to be either very difficult to recreate it or just impossible to do so because it was on the spot, winged, all of your heart and soul went into it and finding it gone like that... you lose all of your will to go on with that, you can't revisit what you just put down, it's gone and now either you're annoyed, angry, or just upset, either way you're no longer in the mood to go on and sometimes you never turn back to it. This is why I try to make it a habit to save my game OFTEN (or as often as possible like when there's check points involved). Sometimes it gets annoying to others because I spend 10 minutes out of 30 just saving the damn game.
