When I first visited your site, the thing that kept me coming back was all the video game content and I watched all of it in a few days. I did however notice that maybe the other big thing was D&D. I don't really have an opinion on it since I have no idea what it's like. But I started checking out the videos and posts anyway out of curiosity. I've always seen D&D from the outside ignorant point of view. Some people say its really geeky, mums are freaked out by it and in my country there was a crazy kid who killed his parents because he was told to do so while playing some similar game , causing the media to blame D&D in the same way Marilyn Manson was blamed for the Columbine incident.
After all that negative information it is refreshing to see how D&D is.The real deal. And I think its great. When I see you guys talk about D&D its looks like something you are passionate about it and it's a positive thing in your lives that actually brings people together and everything.
So the reason I´m boring you with this is to ask everyone that plays D&D to tell me what's it all about. Boomer's D&D for dummies, what's the excitement in it,how does it work... whatever you are willing to share with me about it.
English is not my native language so please excuse me if my writing is kiddish or not understandable.
Thanks for reading! :)

I've been playing since 2000, as someone who grew up playing a lotof console rpgs, tabnle tops just seemed the next logical step.
If you're interested in learning more you could always check out Wizards website, they were giving away Keep on Shadowfell for free, I'm sure they still are, which included an adventure for levels 1-3 and quick start rules and premade characters.
Of course thats for 4E, so if you're interested in another edition then you might have to look elsewhere.
D&D is just a good way for people who are into RPG's toget away from their consoles/computers and interact. You make your character, and you play.
Blasphemy, I know, but it's true.
I also find (being a former Psychology/Sociology student), it also allows you to gain a little insight into your friends. Although thats a personal thing. I'm not suggesting you should go to a D&D session, and start cold-reading everyone.
It's especially fun when there are so many campaign settings, allowing you to pretty much make whatever game you want.
I personally like the look of Ravenloft, and hope it comes out in 4th ed, if it hasn't already.
*Edit: Forgot to mention my two characters
I have Rolen, the pyrophobic Winter-Elf (Houseruled race) Ranger, who hates dragonborns.
And Becca, the Human Raven Queen Cleric, who puts on a facade of complete and utter ditz to cover up the fact that her beliefs have made her an almost complete and utter sociopath.

It's a great way to see whom amongst your friends is traitorous scum! :)
First of all, Hipermusic, your English is just fine. No doubt it's better than my Spanish.
My opinion on what D&D is all about is like this:
D&D is a cooperative storytelling epic fantasy adventure game where the players are the protaganists.
Like any good story, it plays with the player's emotions. I like to think that my players get to feel heroic. That's the big draw for me as a DM.
As for how it works, the best way to figure that out it is to go by a game store and play a sample game or get some friends together with the rule books and try it out.
The three of us have been discussing taping a game and putting it up online. We have a game recorded, but we need the permission of all the players and we need to have the time to edit it.

Thank you guys. All the info will be very useful so ill check it all out on Monday after my last exam (yay)
@Boomer I'll be looking forward to see that taped game if the players are cool with it and you have enough time to edit :)
I first time iplayed D&D in about 1999, maybe 1998 with my sisters boyfriend and his friends who were all in their 20's. I started with a Bard and accidentally shot one of the players with a spell and was beaten in game for it. After that i was killed by a gang of goblins...that was it, i was hooked.
I started my own D&D group and luckily i have a local role playing store that holds regular sessions that helped out a lot. Now myself and my band of friends have moved to D&D 4e and generally still love it and meet when possible.
D&D (in my opinion) is just a great way to sit around and share an experience with your closest friends. You can let your imagination run wild and create a truly epic story all with some paper, pencils and a handful of dice.
