Echo Screen #10.5: The Indefensibility of the Star Wars Prequels (Unedited)

We generally cut our podcasts down to a managable 40-50 minutes.  But sometimes there's so much awesome packed in that we have to let it out.  This is one of those times.  We present our lambasting of the Star Wars prequels (mostly) unedited.  Make sure you're comfy, because there's almost 30 more minutes of laughter, tears, salient points, and just goofing around.  And along the way, you'll see a bit of the background tomfoolery that goes into our podcasts.

Note: Though billed as "unedited", do not be afraid if you notice some cuts in the video.  This was done to either skip minutes of dead time (usually bathroom breaks) or resync the video with the audio, which tends to skip in the mannner with which we record.

Part 1:
 - (0:00) Intro & Best of the Worst
 - (11:15) Episode 1, The Phantom Menace
 - (23:00) Episode 2, Attack of the Clones

Part 2:
 - (00:00) Episode 3, Revenge of the Sith
 - (11:15) Effect on the Original Trilogy

Re: Echo Screen #10.5: The Indefensibility of the Star Wars ...

Great podcast, guys, I really enjoyed it.  Oh, and JarJar Binks is my favorite character of all time. I have the Binkses over for popcorn and movies every Saturday.

Srsly, you had a lot of good points. If you think the franchise is damaged for you, imagine how people my age feel: we saw the original Star Wars back when we were your age.  I still remember seeing the trailer for it, remember how stunning it was, because no movie had ever looked like that before. Evah. Now all movies, even non-scifi types of movies, seem to have encorporated the Star Wars idioms into their style. It was that much of a game changer.

And now: eh.

Anyway, I'll be watching more of your stuff....

The thing is, Anaking becomes evil to protect Padme. Then he decides the best way to protect her is to choke her to death...

Maybe we should hire someone to hit George Lucas with a ruler, and tell him to sit in the corner to "Think about what you've done" every time he approaches a script.

Star Wars is like your

Star Wars is like your grandparents. It seems like they've always been around and you love them unconditionally. The prequel movies were like accidentally walking in on them having sex. After that, you won't ever look at them the same way.

I can't even watch the three original movies anymore because I can't get the new ones out of my head.

Well, technically, they had to make this version first, so this could qualify as "Echo Screen #10: The indefensibility of the Star Wars Prequels: The Prequel"

I'm a big fan of Star Wars

I'm a big fan of Star Wars (I've got a big fucking collection of Star Wars figures and vehicles). The original trilogy were awesome films - The Empire Strikes Back being my personal favourite. The prequel trilogy, on the other hand, completeley destroyed Star Wars's reputation. The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were both abortions. Revenge of the Sith isn't bad, but compared to the original titles it is a bag of shite. I could sit here and praise the original trilogy all day... but at the same time I could sit here and critisice the prequel trilogy all day. The only decent part of the prequel trilogy is that Natalie Portman is in them :P.

I think the one elephant in

I think the one elephant in the room that should have been mentioned about Episode 1 was the fact about how the Force originated.  In the original trilogy, we hear about the Force being this mystical energy that permeates throughout the universe.  Nah, those are just microscopic organisms in your blood stream.  What a letdown!

I think Lucas's douchebaggery isn't limited to just Star Wars as was evident in the fourth Indiana Jones movie.  I would have been just fine with Indy riding off into the sunset like in the Last Crusade and no other movie ever getting made after that-I could go on for hours about how bad it sucked.

Indiana Jones was based on

Indiana Jones was based on the the old movie serials where the hero gets out of impossible situations through outlandish means.

Bottom line: Crystal Skull delivered on that premise.
