Echo Screen #5: What's Wrong with the Syfy Channel?
Have you watched the Sci-Fi... I mean Syfy channel lately? Of course not, because it sucks hardcore. But why? Wasn't there a day and age when the Sci-Fi channel was actually pretty good? The guys from the Clan of the Gray Wolf weigh in on the things that were once great about the Sci-Fi channel, the (seemingly endless) things that they've done wrong, and a few suggestions about how to make things more interesting (read: watchable) in the future. Is the fate of the Syfy channel more Battlestar Galactica, or Law and Order SVU? You decide, as the Clan of the Gray Wolf (repeatedly) attacks the Syfy channel. Anybody feel like watching some wrestling?

Note: There are some stuttering issues with the video (but not the audio) until about the 5 minute mark - we'll fix this in future podcasts.

I've not checked in a while, but I think the British Sci-fi channel is still half decent.
America's Greatest Homemade Science Fiction Flicks would be a great addition to the lineup.
Oh, wait . . . . They do that already.
Personally, I like Ghost Hunters. They use available tech to either prove or disprove paranormal activity.
They go in as skeptics looking to debunk claims and, more often than not, find places to be not haunted.
Compared to just about any other reality series on TV, this actually good television and, I believe, acceptible for Syfy.
What else do I like about Syfy?
Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, Enterprise reruns (Yes, they should pick it up), Star Trek TNG reruns (I could see a new series with Riker as Captain), Warehouse 13, Eureka.
As a guilty pleasure I do watch WWE, but I agree that it doesn't really fit the Syfy channel, no matter how you decide to brand it.
As I type this, I'm watching a show that TNT picked up that would be a good fit. Supernatural.
If their movies weren't bad remakes of current/recent theatrical horror/sci-fi flicks it would be alright to have a movie-of the-week. But they suck, so they should invest the money in good original series, or in picking up good series.
Though it wasn't great, I would like to see what happened with the series Surface. Perhaps tie up the series. It would be better than any other crappy movie they could come up with.
They need to de-brand back to Sci-Fi and own it!
Can't believe I left this one out . . .
The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. starring Bruce Campbell would be an awesome pick-up and has possibilities for continuation.
It would probably require a new cast, though.
I'm sure Bruce would be all about producing it, or at least playing Brisco County Sr in flashbacks.
So after I watched this, I went and looked up Otherworld. I don't think it is what you guys think it is; I watched the whole series on YouTube and didn't see any cowboys.
I would suggest they pool the money from the 10-20 crap movies they produce every month, and make 1 mediocre film. Then the movies might be just about watchable.
They badly need brains at their programming and creative (I'm assuming such exists) department.

The Sci Fi channel was never great, it had some good show's and on occasion it aired a good movie. It has gone down the tubes just like MTV but I don't think it has fallen near as far as MTV has. It still airs some good movies from time to time and re-runs Star Trek and The Twilight Zone. I still watch Syfy but not very often.
