So Final Fantasy X will be getting a high-definition upgrade, for both the PS3 and PSV. I'm sure there are some fans out there crying out in anger that Squenix is doing anything with FFX before FFVII....Cough...

This does raise a question though; will other FF games follow suit and be made into HD in the near future? Keep in mind that other games prior to PS2 releases would be harder to make into HD, and they'd essentially have to be totally redone (which is one of the reasons Squenix has repeatedly said they're not working on FF7 redux for the forseeable future), from what I understand. Still, what do you think of the possibility and liklihood? Will they feel inclined to start making all new, HD ports now?

Square-Enix isn't going to

Square-Enix isn't going to remake FF7 until every single person who worked on it originally can reconvene to remake it. Which isn't going to be likely for a long time. Or at least that was the explanation back when the company was just Square.

However, an HD re-release of FF7 with proper grammar corrections is preferable. That way I can play it on my television, which won't render 280p.

The thing is though, I think

The thing is though, I think an HD FF7 would essentially be a remake, because it would have to be. From what I understand, given that FF7 is a PS game, there isn't really any other way to do it; it just can't really be moved into HD from its original form. I suspect this is also why Metal Gear Solid is also not being included in the MGS HD collection; they'd have to completely remake it (again!), and that would take too much time and money (and they probably can't use The Twin Snakes since Sillicon Knights developed that as opposed to Konami themselves, so hence, the first game is completely left out of the collection).

The PS2 is technically different, and for reasons I don't entirely understand, it's just easier to move into HD, which is also probably why the PS2 harvest has begun, and many PS2 games are being into HD; FFX now being one of them, of course.

Naturally, there are a lot of other games Squenix could move into HD that I'm sure fans would love, like the Kingdom Hearts games, and FF11 and 12 (although FF11 is probably not likely). And of course FFX-2. This doesn't mean they never will make HD upgrades or remakes of other games though. FFX may only be the beginning!

personally id like an FF7

personally id like an FF7 remake thats more than graphics. Maybe add an epilogue of some sort that could take place even after the events of advent children/DoC/etc.

But im also iffy on it because it might not live up to my dreams. So who knows.

I doubt anything that Squenix

I doubt anything that Squenix did really would live up to anyone's dreams, to be honest. Some people don't think about that. Besides, can anyone really other than one's self make something that truly lives up to their dreams?

I do also agree though that I see no real point in reduxing FF7, or any other game, if there isn't going to be something else different other than the pretty pictures.

I think at this point they're only sufficiently able to polish turds, hence FFX HD.

It would be nice if they had someone else with half a brain for design and storytelling remake FF7 with a decent epilogue.

Capitalizing on old Square

Capitalizing on old Square titles is what Squenix does best!

I just came from GameTrailers

I just came from GameTrailers after seeing Final Fantasy X HD, I have to say 'stop with the remakes'.

Since VII is talked about and going to be talked about on this site for a bit here is a quote from http://www.gamesradar.com/tgs-2011-woah-final-fantasy-x-hd-remake-reveal...

Taking a PlayStation game and making it look like anything less than crap in HD, however, is another story. At that point they’d be literally rebuilding the entire game, and for as fun as that might sound to you, it really makes no sense whatsoever. With the amount it would cost they could just make Final Fantasy XV.

Also speaking of polishing turds I am going to see if I can watch Mythbusters online.

Yeah, I think you nailed it,

Yeah, I think you nailed it, exactly, White Mage; that's what I was talking about. An FF7 HD upgrade would be a remake. It would have to be because that's the only way to make the shift.  And Squenix has said multiple times they're not remaking it for the forseeable future.

Again though, there are other games they could remake a lot easier. I would not be surprised to see Kingdom Hearts HD games in the near future. But this also doesn't mean they'll never redux any PS-Era or earlier games in HD; it would just be a much bigger obstacle than I think a lot of people realize, and it would take a lot more time and money to do so.

http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/222957/editorial-final-fantasy-x-rem...

So dig on this. Here's a LamePro article claiming "Square-Enix doesn't care about FF7 fans!! They're making FFX in HD when they should have done FF7 when the PS3 first came out!" I guess this writer is one of the many people who were burned by the PS3 demo using FF7, and just couldn't except that it was just a demo...Sigh...

Although this writer does acknowledge that FF7 "is so old that Square Enix would literally have to create a brand new game with a brand new engine", that doesn't matter. He thinks this is a sign that they 'don't care about FF7 fans'. Just because FFX is getting an HD upgrade first.

He then claims "Kat accurately describes an FFVII HD remake as 'the Holy Grail of Final Fantasy fans.' If that's what this phantom RPG is received as, that's a terrible thing. That means Square Enix has no intention of giving the fans what they want, and are holding the project back so that fans will stay interested in the possiblity of a remake -- and by extension, stay interested in Final Fantasy."

Sigh....Just can't let go, huh? Boo hoo, life is so unfair because I may not get the same game made again. Squenix doesn't care about me or the other fans. Get a life.

I doubt very much Squenix "doesn't care about the FF7 fans." There are people within Squenix that would like to remake FF7. This....is not a secret. Again though, it would take time and resources away from them doing other things that I'm sure they want to do. It doesn't seem to be a priority for a variety of reasons.

At least the writer does close with addressing this with "Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they just don't have the time, the manpower, or the resources, and Square Enix genuinely can't make an FFVII remake that will please the entire fan base."  And that's another thing that I mentioned earlier; I don't think anything Squenix does would "please  the entire fanbase". No doubt, a redux would sell, but it wouldn't live up to everyone's dreams.....uh, whatever those dreams are for a game they already played.

Sigh...

Hey, remember this thread? :P There's just a news blurb released this week in which, as the URL says, Kitase comments that FFX HD is 'in early development.' And....that's evidently about all there is to say. Still no word on a release date or anything else about what this upgrade might entail. Hmmm.

Eh, this isn't really 'news,' but it is clarification that it is indeed more or less jsut an HD upgrade, or 'remaster,' as they call it here, than a remade game. That's....pretty much what I thought. Were a lot of people still confused by this?

I wanted say a come back

I wanted say a come back about how can people confuse a game that is getting a HD upgrade with an remake but the wording is not coming together.

Thinking of it are there any 3D games that were remade where the gameplay was altered?

No, you're thinking of Metal

No, you're thinking of Metal Gear Solid 2, Maze. Ha-cha-chaaa!

As for your question, White Mage.....Hmmmm......Well, speaking of Metal Gear,  The Twin Snakes had some altered gameplay; instead of using the original game's engine, it used the same basic engine as MGS2. From what I understand, the 3DS version of MGS3 will also have some altered gameplay as well, but  you'll still be able to do all the same things, I think.

Final Fantasy IV on the DS had some slightly different gameplay, such as the Augment system. Otherwise, nothing big, really.

I guess I can't think of much else. It's not uncommon for remakes to have some kind of altered gameplay, even if it's not major; usually just here and there, I guess.
