So, who here is geeky enough to have *purchased* a game soundtrack? Not as a preorder bonus or something else free, but as something you actively went out of your way to get. Or maybe if you upgraded to a collector's edition solely for the soundtrack, but that's not very far out of your way. ;-)
Me, I have a couple. A few Zelda ones from various sources, I have the Shadows of the Empire soundtrack (that I bought *years* after it was generally available) but that might not be considered truly a game soundtrack, and of course some of those silly pack-ins/bonuses I mentioned earlier. But truth be told, my new soundtrack is probably the first I've actually directly spent money on (maybe 1 Zelda one, but I actually don't think so). I've talked about how much I love Etrian Odyssey before, and Yuzo Koshiro's music for it, but I decided to buy it after hearing a few of the tracks from the EO3 arranged version on YouTube. Tax return = order, thankfully. And it's fortunate, since the music was taken down by YouTube. I spent probably an hour combined making an image, extracting the music, and converting it to MP3s (so I don't damage the disc through use, and for convenience; no, not for file sharing), then finding the English translations of the titles, the individual arranger artists, etc etc to fill out the file info.
Who else has gone out of their way for, and purchased, a video game soundtrack?

I lost it, but I had as a centrepiece to my music collection the soundtrack to Dark Cloud
I still haven't gotten around to ripping the Persona 4 soundtrack to my computer, but that was a freebie with the game, so it doesn't gain any props here

FFVII OST, FFVIII OST, and FF Celtic Moon... yeah I buy them when I like the music. If you've not heard celtic moon it's great, it's based on FFIV but they've given everything a "Celtic" sound to it.
Here's an example in glorious OST:

I bought a soundtrack of Seiken Densetsu 2/Secret of Mana from a online japanese music shop cost me about 38$ australian. I did notice last time I looked it was about 50$. I do want to get another copy incase I break/lose my current copy or just for hoarding purposes.
I just found it and it has a few scratches on it
so I will be getting another 1 or 2.
I bought the Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask ST at the same time

The only soundtrack that I want is Chrono Cross and I don't want to pay $50-$60 used for it and the cheapest I found it for was $30 (discs only), but say Square-Enix's website had it I would buy it for that much.
The thing with this soundtrack is I got the game after the soundtrack re-release was discontinued.

The only one that I own is Chrono Cross, my favorite OST of all time. I didn't even purchase it myself, my sister had my mom get it for me 2 X-mas's ago. I would've gotten it myself, but these things are ridiculously expensive. I'm not really ashamed to say that I've acquired a few through... less than kosher means? I think if a game has a great OST, the developer should put it up for a reasonable price for sale. It's more money to be made, after all...
Seiken Densetsu is so good. I'd get a soundtrack to that if it were reasonable, too. I'll probably *eventually* buy a lot of Dragon Quest soundtracks, but not yet. The Celtic Moon thing is nice, yeah. I know someone who'd really love that. Haven't had a chance to play Chrono Cross, sadly, but I am sure its music is great. OoT and MM I have the soundtracks to. A few of them. Some I got from renewing to Nintendo Power and such, but the others I don't really remember how I got them. One I might have purchased, but I don't really remember. I do remember being disappointed with a few since they were basically just game rips.

The other game soundtrack that I own came with Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy and it has nice music but most of the songs are just a minute or two long.
True, and I would buy Chrono Cross even when I have them in MP3 format.

I own maybe 2 dozen soundtracks. I usually go out of my way to get them.
I would get a Chrono Cross soundtrack if I could since Matsuda outdid himself in it, but too bad the game was terrible (Beat it twice, such a waste of life).
oddley enough I believe I have the chrono cross OST.. which is odd cause I couldn't ever really get into the game, and never got further than about 3-4 hours in.

The best video game soundtrack I've ever bought has to be Enemy Zero. I picked it up on ebay a few years back and it was soooo worth the money.
here's a link to the blog post I wrote on why it's my favorite soundtrack, I'm too lazy to rewrite my reasons :P
http://geekcommentaries.blogspot.com/2011/02/top-ten-video-game-soundtra...
oh, I also have my other top 9 soundtracks there too.
You know, there's one game that had a wicked sound track and anyone who bought the game already had it.
Half-Life.
or at least the version I bought did, can't remember how I found out, but I loaded it as a CD once, skipped the data track then just loved it.

Looking through this thread suddenly makes me feel old... I'm not even 30.
No Castlevania? Who can deny the how bad ass this is:

Or how about Double Dragon?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3c2xbYWKY0&feature=related
:-P I didn't mention them because it was about on-disc, purchasable soundtracks. Of couse I love Double Dragon and Castlevania's music. A lot, actually. :)
Aestolia, I've got a Half-Life disc. Never tried that, though. TBH, never actually played it yet. >.>

I have another one I forgot about.
World of Warcraft: The burning crusade collectors edition soundtrack
It came with a useless eBay listing that I bought their "unused" meant the cd not the game code. So really I spend 40$ on the soundtrack cd that was in a smashed up case.
Its lucky I like the music from TBC. :P I miss TBC feels so long ago now. How times flies.
