I was wondering if anyone out there had any thoughts on the benefits of pursuing the hobby of role-playing beyond the simple fun of the game, for example: an expanded vocabulary; math skills; etc. Do you think this prepped you for university or other factors of life?
Personally, I credit a love of reading to playing D&D as a kid and teen, something I feel is pretty universal amongst my friends. That, then, lead me to a pursuit of writing just for the sake of writing, a hobby I still enjoy today.
Is there anything like that in your life?

I think the best thing I've gotten out of tabletop RPGs (besides enjoyment) was the social aspect. I've met most of my friends through roleplaying groups, and it gives an opportunity for face to face interaction that other forms of gaming don't. And since most games are fewer than 10 people, all of whom have at least one interest in common, it bypasses a lot of the awkwardness I feel meeting new people or interacting with large groups.
One of the things it's helped me do is develop my voice (for minor amateur voice acting and vocal recordings of audio books), as well as just develop my ability to process my ideas and speak on the fly.
May seem like an odd thing to attribute to it, but it certainly is a skill that comes in handy at times in life. Especially when one is prone to speak without first fully thinking things through.

Patience
I'm a fan of the Dragon Quest series so from the early games I learned to have patience. Not just anyone can grind on hours on end without going crazy.

My best benefit in roleplaying would be meeting people who have the same passion you have for games like tabletop. Sad to say, tabletop gaming here in the Philippines are now in extinction, and games here more like a fashion trend. Yeah I am not kidding...

That's not a sin right?
I would really like to play a tabletop rpg, but there's no one in my area who would enjoy playing. I don't know anyone who's a fan.

Easy solution to that Gnash, we start an online CotGW Game get some players from around the Clan, I'm sure there's at least one GM in our midst who would be up for such a task.
Some decent free tools can be found at www.RPTools.net to help facilitate online games.
