Weekly Wringer 2: Epic Mickey

Here it is folks, Weekly Wringer #2 shot with the old laptop camera while on Christmas vacation. This week we look back at the tremendous response to Wringer #1 surrounding what franchise you'd all like to see "Epic Mickey'd." This week, the Wringer will be decidedly more seasonal in nature with a Christmas question sure to get your nostalgia juices pumping. Enjoy Weekly Wringer #2 (as well as the crappy video and sound of my laptop... sorry) and be sure to let your voice be heard!!!

My favorite Christmas special

My favorite Christmas special has to be "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" So classic, I love how it brings in how Santa grew up, and it shows the history of how everything works. It answers questions regarding why the reindeer fly. It was my favorite growing up, and I still love it today.

Away from TV, I saw some fan-made flash by some person I don't know of Mario Singing jingle bells, and then Luigi comes in and says "Shut Up Before I Stab You" As a Mario fanboy, that did it for me

Commodore, the video cut out

Commodore, the video cut out before you finished your thoughts on Final Fantasy.

Anyway, one of my favorite Christmas-related "specials" was Twas The Night Beofre Myxmas from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. A lot of you know I am a Superman fan. He's my favorite super hero. But what made this episode so great was not only Howie Mandel as Mxyzptlk, but a Groundhog Day-esque plot. And, like my point from the last Wringer, it was loyal to the source material, but did its own thing. Sure, Clark had to figure out he had to say his name backward, but it was just really well done in what was normally a very campy (yet very good) show.

Because that's just a stand alone filler episode of a TV show, I'm probably going to have to go with Jingle All The Way. I just love that movie. I've never been a huge Swarzenegger fan, but his comedies are great (well, I like the FIRST Terminator movie). I had it on DVD, but it didn't survive the string of moves I made after I got my bachelor's degree. That is one movie that I'll show any potential hellspawn I have one day. *shudders at the idea*

oooh tough question

I think my favorite TV Christmas special either has to be the first Simpsons Christmas special, ( it was the first episode too,) or the Charlie Brown Christmas Special. The Charlie brown one is a family favorite, and I watch it every year. It's funny, charming, and deals with how the ideas surrounding Christmas are changing from a religeous-celebratory meaning, to a constatly more commercialzed holiday.( I'm not religious, but i agree things get a little far when my grocery store had ornamants up before theytook down halloween decorations,) more general ideas such as togetherness and family, etc, etc.

and the Simpsons 1st Christmas Special because it's a great special as a stand-alone episode, but it also is a really good piot setting up the characters and humor, so it does a really good job in what it's supossed to do.

wow that's a lot of spellimng

wow that's a lot of spellimng and grammer errors. long live dyslexia.

...anyway, I forgot to say that the only Christmas game that i can think of that I find good, is Christmas NiGHTS. Sure, it's only the first two levels but it has so many internal clock features and extras I think it's worth it. plus, it was a free give away.

I gotta go with

I gotta go with skysamfreeman.  Charlie Brown Christmas, while being touching and heartfelt, is most importantly one of the few Christmas specials that actually touches on the whole reason for the holiday.

And besides, who's never used the term "Charlie Brown Christmas Tree"?

That stop/go claymation movie

I can't remember the actual title of this movie but its all i think of when i think about christmas specials. It included frosty the snowman and rudolph. i dont know if that counts as a special or just a weird ass movie. Either way, nostalgia ftw.

(Regarding Wringer #1)Does anyone else think that a video game should be made about Stephen Kings Dark Tower series? Talk about epic. I feel like it would be pretty difficult to pull off but Roland is a kick ass hero. A gunslinger that moves back and forth through time and through different dimensions? Sick.

The Grinch

The most memorable special for me has to be How The Grinch Stole Christmas the song that accompanies him when he's "Stealing Christmas" has remained in the back corner of my mind since the first time I watch it.

I don't feel my Christmas is

I don't feel my Christmas is complete without hearing "One Foot In Front of the Other" from Santa Claus is Comin' to Town.

The one I loved the most when I was a kid was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, though. I didn't have cable growing up so the only ones that I ever happened to catch with any frequency were those above and Frosty the Snowman.

Though I did see that Frosty (and family) and Rudolph special, Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July, special a couple of times. Didn't they run away with the circus or something? I just remember that it was bizarre.

I have a special spot for Charlie Brown (I even bought an official Charlie Brown tree), so I have to put the Peanuts Christmas special in there.

And the Grinch!

It's just a great story, Christmas or not.

I would catch most of these on what would become my local Fox affiliate on Saturday afternoons in December. Usually the two weekends before Christmas.

Good times.

Aside from Charlie Brown, I

Aside from Charlie Brown, I can't really think of too many Christmas specials I have enjoyed. :-/ I tried the Star Wars holiday special... oh god, I can't wash it out of my brain no matter how hard I try!

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go witht the collective tide and say "AC/BC" (A Charlie Brown Christmas, hehe).  Not only is the story one of the most memorable and relevant stories of the holiday season, but that darn song... can't get it out of my head!

In terms of video games... I know it's a bit out there, but remember the sequence in Secret of Mana where you save Santa?  Nothing comes close to the triumph of the Christmas spirit more than when you save Santa from the evil Empire. cheeky

I gotta mention, I recieved Secret of Mana from "Santa" back in 1993 (whoa, 17 years ago!!!).  My mom and dad thought they were clever putting "From Santa" on that gift tag, but at that point I was fairly sure that Santa wasn't real... or was he???

I'm embarrassed to say that

I'm embarrassed to say that there really aren't that many, if any, Xmas specials that I can remember fondly enough to put forward for this one. The Simpsons had a few great ones, such as the Santa's Little Helper one and the one with Gil, but overall, there's not really one that stands out for me.

For video game, it has to be Christmas Lemmings for me - I loved the themes and the music and it was a great game. I think it came out in the USA as Holiday Lemmings, because for some reason it must be illegal to say Christmas over there, or perhaps Coca-Cola have copyrights on it! :P

I dont know if home alone

I dont know if home alone counts but thats a great christmas movie. I guess I have to go with how the grinch stole christmas. NOT THE JIM CARREY MOVIE. That special was always just entertaining, visually appealing and had a good moral about how christmas isnt just about material things

Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy (I know, Im young)

I think the ed edd n eddy special was great, cuz it showed each of the charicters interpretations of Christmas and their celebrations and traditions, and it has Eddy wandering around tryin to "find his Christmas" so ta speek.
