iPhone Apps for D&D

I've been using my computer or laptop to aid my RPG efforts for many years now. In the last two years, I've ditched the DM screen for a laptop. (I love my MacBook Pro.) But I've recently replaced my old Motorola RAZR with the iPhone 3GS, and I love it. So I've been looking for ways to use it at the table as an aid.

I've found that computers and apps are not necessarily time savers at the table. For example, using initiative cards is at least as fast and convenient as iNit for tracking initiative, but I use iNit anyways. For one, there's less clutter on the table and less for me to clean up at the end of the night.

I've found a handful of apps, written for the iPhone, that are a great start:

iNit:

http://www.apptism.com/apps/init is currently the ONLY initiative tracker for the iPhone, and I think it is great! The app is in active development and the developer is very responsive. You can find him here:

http://www.gamersledge.com/init.html

MachDice:

Is a very nice virtual dice roller with a great 3-D illusion.

Quick Roll

Quick Roll is a fantastic dice roller that skips the virtual dice, but allows a user to create a  list of "characters" and assign a list of dice rolls to them.  I pre-load my encounters into the app and use it to roll monster attacks and damage.  I should not that while the app is usable for 4th Ed, it's clearly set up for 3.5 ed. Also, I'm not clear on whether this app is still being updated, but you can check out the developer's site here:

Remote

This little app is authored by Apple, and is simply great for letting me play music for my game by controlling my iTunes playlist that I run on my nearby desktop computer.

iplay4E

Any discussion of great apps has to include, iplay4E, even though it is a webapp that is designed to be used with the iPhone. Basically, after you create your character in character builder, you can upload the XML file and access it via your phone. What really makes it cool is that the developer has added alot of enhancements that make it possible to play your character from your iPhone. You can track HP, power usage, healing surges, and even roll attacks and damage, all from your phone

You may also want to check out DiceEQ. It's probably not as advanced or flashy as Dicenomicon, but it can do a lot of the same things.

Check out d20 Rules
(http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/d20-rules/id368796548?mt=8). This app contains all of the following rules for d20 3.5e: core, divine, epic, psionics and variant (aka unearthed arcana). And all for a meager $1! The definite once and for all d20 rule app!

There is also a version for Pathfinder: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pfr/id365514623?mt=8

Re: iPhone Apps for D&D

I am so glad that I have found this your post because I always search for some information about various iPhone applications. I have to admit that I have not known anything about the Quick Roll so it was quite interesting to know something new. It is really great that you share for us such useful stuff. Thanks a lot one more time for the useful information and I will be waiting for more great news from you in the nearest future. Best Regards, Jeremy Patton from iphone development

DMTools does initiative tracking as well as HP and viewing defenses of monsters, easy to use interface for reordering (just drag!) and also has a section for keeping ordered notes.
