Maybe I'm just cold hearted, but Aeris death didn't affect me.
Hop one game back and I'll tell you what did; seeing the world I loved so much destroyed before my eyes. Cid passing away. Then Celes, bereft of hope, the oppressing grief of sorrow and solitude pressing in on her... until finaly she can't take it any longer and throws herself from the highest cliff.
That was a painful moment in my gaming history

Yeah i was mentally prepared for it so I didn't freak out i was more mad than anything because i spent a while leveling her and then loosing her just like that.

Didn't affect me either, cuz some bastard spoiled it to me when I was playing something else online.
Also, I think FF6 had more sad moments than 7.
When I first saw Aerith's death, I didn't cry. But I'll never forget the day itself. That's one of those experiences that sticks with you. And that CG sequence was a part of that day.

Same here, but that's most likely because I knew about it years before I played the game to that point. I'd played the first disk or so on a friend's PS1 in 1997, but didn't own the game myself until I got a PS2 in 2002.
That opera scene in FF6 on the other hand...

Might as well ask something here. I haven't played said game much but when I mentioned that I wanted this game since it was the only Final Fantasy I didn't have for the PlayStation (got a PSone after I got GameCube) and wanted to see what all the fuss was about, I was offered to play it from my roommate at that time, I played it for 16 hours with Aeris before I gave the game back. I found a copy locally and bought it and I am going to start from the beginning again since it would be easier than to figure out what I have and where to go.
So because of this I am planning not to have Aeris in my party for the fact 'what is the point to level up a character that I know is going to die.' Sad thing is, what I remember she is the healer.

Didn't really affect me, my older sister was playing through the game almost religiously and I didn't get to start playing until she pretty much beat the game, I walked in and watched her play a lot of times because I was bored and during that time of my life, we didn't have many kids around my age to go out and hang out or play with (however you wanna put it). My favorite character was Red XIII even though a lot people give him so much negativity towards, I find his story more heartbreaking NOW when I look back than Aeris dying, what way to make Sephiroth more sinister than to kill off Cloud's love interest? He's the main guy, we play through with him and get attached to him so we would dislike Sephiroth even more, but folks don't see how sad Red XIII's story is as well. One more little bit before I part from this thread (if I return, because someone replies to my statement, cool), I found Yuffie hot while growing up, I had more interest toward Yuffie than Tifa, I probably would still if I were into that sort. I guess because my age was roughly around hers when I got to watch Yuffie in action, a spunky, outgoing girl who keeps in shape and knows how to KILL??? My kinda girl... Tifa doesn't fit that kind of mold QUITE.
That's all... just... saying... >.>

I still don't think Aerith was Cloud's love interest. She loved Zack way too much.

I never used Aerith, I didn't like her. There was something about her... for lack of a better term Disney Princess kind of innocence that just irratated me to no end. The only part of her passing that make me angry was the fact that Cloud went through the most annoying slump I've ever experienced in a game, lasted a pretty long time too.
Celes deciding to take a walk off a cliff on the other hand.....

That impacted me so hard the first time I played through it, I always make a save on the island, feed Cid the fast fish and save him. If I fail, I reload the save.

I actually did feel sad cause I had a crush on Aerith and I didn't know it was coming. I bought it the day it came out on PSone so...
Also, one of my favorite things to do is name REDXIII Nanaki. That way when you learn in the game his "real name" everyone is all like, "Who is Nanaki?" and they say "Nanaki is Nanaki."
lol.
It's funny cause I had a sort of mixed reaction. I never used here in battles because of her low HP, I mainly stuck to all front line DDs and just hammered through stuff with potions, or I'd have Tifa throw out cures between punches cause... you know... woman. But I did try to ressurrect her after she died, spent a bit of time on it too, cause I heard you could bring her back but no one mentioned it was cut from the US version, I remember how much people used to debate that back when messageboards were the hot thing to do on the interweb.
Plus I had this really weird experience, I saw the ghost of Aeris in the church after she died. A lot of people say I made it up but at some point after she died I went to the church and she appeared on screen for a second and dissappeared, no dialouge or anything. I think it was part of the original CS where she asks Cloud to bring her back. Honestly that freaked me out more than any RE or Silent Hill game, I thought she was haunting me for not leveling her up ;.;
part of the game it may have been the bringing her back thing or her spirt or a glitch

Her spirit appearing in the Church was an intentional part of the game for the sake of being an emotional reminder. It just was meant to remind you of the significance that place held for her, I suppose...aaaand there was more to death than just rotting in a lake for Aeris.
I always wanted Aerith to stay dead. BUT I wished that from time to time Cloud would have had some sort of spiritual dialogue with her. Her telling him to move on, because she was doing what not only what she was meant to do, but what she wanted.
So I wish there had been more dialogue with the glitchy spirits around the world.
Then that's pretty much what we got in Advent Children. A movie that still makes NO freaking sense.

ADVENT CHILDREN SPOILERS! Cause I can make sense out of anything!
What do you mean, it makes perfect sense! See the sickness comes from... Holy! And then the motorcycles are symbolic of badassnesss, and they still fight with swords cause guns are for pussies, and Vincent sparkles in the daylight. So Cloud is also sick because he's a clone of Spiderman. No he's a clone of Zack. Or Sephiroth. Or he was an alien, I mean that sword is friggen huge and he has those little tiny arms... And that hair, it's sad when Wakka's hairdo seems realistic. So Barret is doing his best to raise his kid on his Mr. T impersonation and Tifa is running the delivery business with Cloud as a courier cause... there's not much work out there for "I swing big swords and lose the will to live" And Cloud's still hallucinating because of the after effects of Holy cause it's radioative. But then the Sephiroth Cosplayer's Club shows up, and attacks Cloud cause XxSephirothxX wants to fight the guy that killed Sephiroth, though we all know it was Cait Sith that killed Sephiroth. No but really I think they were smoking the same batch of crazy that Sephiroth did. Really though Jenova's supposed to turn them into homicidal maniacs, the perfect soldier! So they all have an unhealthy obsession with mommy and they want to bring it back from the dead/test tube/stasis/disection/whatever. And they bring back Sephiroth cause, deep down aren't we all batshit crazy, giant sword wielding mama's boys? So if you watched the uncut version you'll see that Sephiroth is actually a combiner robot, the 3 wannabes join their bodies with Loz as the feet and legs, Yazoo as the arms and Kadaj as the torso and head. Yes like Voltron. Then Cloud does battle with his Buster Sword, which to no one's suprise is really just a bunch of swords taped together with duct tape, and he proves the age old proverb "If you want something to die, keep stabbing it with swords." With that the plot contrivance of sickness is no longer needed, so it is wiped away with the magic of love/flowers/getting stabbed/really you could have done this at the beginning of the movie but no you had to wait till the last minute. So in the end Sephiroth is dead again, Jenova is more dead, Cloud is happpy, Tifa still isn't getting laid, and everyone lives happily ever after.
So to recap, Vincent is a vampire and Red XIII is a werewolf, they do battle to win the affection of Yuffie, who can't decide whether she wants to become a werewolf or vampire till she realized being a werewolf means she'd have to shave a lot to keep her loli charm, so she signs up for Team Vincent.
I didn't cry at her death, either, but I was very surprised when it happened. I didn't expect it. Although FF7 is...not a favorite in the series either, it is a scene that does stick with you, sure.
Aeris actually is decent if you actually take the time to level her up. Yes, of course she's weak, physically. She will become stronger with time though, as everyone does, but a key thing is her healing abilities, which are very useful for as long as you have her before she dies. I think it's thus pretty silly to just not use her, but well, it's all about preference, too.
Mr. K-- I've heard a theory from a friend of mine that Aeris was indeed still in love with Zack, and was just projecting those feelings onto Cloud, thus not really being in love with him. Hell, Cloud is even wearing Zack's clothes, and has his sword! It's a pretty sound theory, although I'm not sure if that's what Squenix intended or not.
...I also didn't cry at the FF6 opera either. :P Celes and the cliff...I also didn't cry at that, but....man, it was indeed a terrible thing to see and thik about, and....very dark.
