You know, Prometheus is the first movie in....quite a while that has me really interested and intrigued. Can you blame me, though? It's Ridley Scott returning to science fiction!

For those who don't know, this movie was originally intended to be another Alien movie; a prequel to the first movie, which Scott also helmed, of course! However, in ways that Scott hasn't really explained, and probably because he wants to avoid thpoilerth, the movie 'evolved' into something more than that. Scott still won't directly answer questions about how much of a prequel this is, or if we will see any xenomorphs in it at all or not. though, which is also fine with me; I'd rather be surprised! Evidently, yes, it is still a prequel, and this very trailer does demonstrate that. However, how much this ties into the xenomorphs, we don't know. There are clear Alien references in the trailer, though, and the trailer makes the movie seem to be in a similar style, too.

One thing that I never liked about this whole project was Scott seemed determined from the beginning to reveal the origin of 'the Space Jockey,' the giant, dead (mummified?) alien creature that the Nostromo crew finds inside the derelict ship in Alien, just before Kane finds the egg chamber. I...really don't think it's necessary to know exactly what the 'Space Jockey' is; it was part of the mystery and fun of Alien! Besides, Scott has already more or less explained what he thinks it was, anyway. In the Alien commentary (and other places, probably, he's said, [he imagined it was similar to a bomber pilot, and the Alien egg cargo would be dropped on other worlds as a weapon to wipe populations out. That's also ironic, and perhaps intentionally so, because as the other movies establish, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation wants the Aliens for the same general purpose. ]. Whether we see any of this in Prometheus or not, well, we'll have to wait and see. Scott has also made comments that 'no one ever questioned' who or what this creature was, and that puzzled him. That confuses me, because this means maybe he doesn't understand that fans like the mystery? Also, Hollywood (like major comic companies too, for example) are so obsessed with the origins of everything anymore anyway, and of all things, I thought we didn't need to add this to the pile. I started to wonder if Scott was going to ruin part of his own masterpiece, at least in a way. I don't think Alien will ever be truly 'ruined,' but you know...

I hope that still doesn't happen, but nevertheless, I am looking forward to this movie anyway, more than any I have in....quite a while!

  Anyone else? :P

Here's the new, full trailer, and boy...it just gets me more excited. I love that....creepy alarm sound that runs through later in the trailer, and was also present in previous ones. I'm definitely looking forward to this movie.

By the way, pause it at 2:13- behold, the 'space jockey' creature!

This is the only movie I'm really looking forward to, honestly. Other movies....might be okay, but I'm not sure how much in a hurry I'll be to see them. Prometheus, I am not missing. :3

Not a summer movie but I want

Not a summer movie but I want to see The Hunger Games.

I'm not expecting much of the Avengers but I'll probably go see it and have fun.   I won't be looking for something to make think, it's just to have fun and eat some popcorn.

The new Bourne movie interests me too.

On the animated front, Brave looks like it's going to be good too.

   I'm afraid The Avengers

I'm afraid The Avengers will likely just either be a complete disaster, or just....not be that great. It might be okay, but I get the feeling it won't be anything too exciting. I admit, I'm honestly not a big Joss Whedon fan to begin with, either.

I'm confused about the new Jason Bourne movie; because it doesn't have Jason Bourne. Yet...his name is still in the title. Supposedly, I think it's also supposed to be lifted at least somewhat from one of Eric Van Lustbader's stories, as Robert Ludlum has been dead for 10+ years so his estate hired a new, official series writer. Well...the new stories have Bourne in them, but...this possible adaptation does not, somehow. I...don't get it. If it doesn't have the character whose name is in the title, why not call it something else? That would be like if the next Spider-Man movie is called The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or something, but it's about Silver Sable, and Spider-Man is no where in it. Aw well. I probably won't see it anyway.

Yeah that's one of the reasons I want to see it.   If you remember Bourne was not really his name so maybe that has something to do with it.  A code maybe... who knows...

In addition, I know the Expendables 2 is probably not going to be the best movie out there.  But having Chuck Norris and Van Damme together with the rest of the cast has to be fun even if it's just for laughs.

I still need to see the first

I still need to see the first movie; it sounds like mindless, old-school action movie fun!

Back to Prometheus, so after some pondering, and reading comments from others elsewhere, I'm starting to wonder something about what we might see in this movie. Maybe--  [xenomorphs evolved or were otherwise created/mutated from humans.]  If you look at elements from the trailers, there seems to be some evidence to suspect this. It looks like people become infected with something, and we know that this movie has something to do with creation; of humans, the xenomorphs, or somehow both. We just don't know to what capacity yet.

Also, in the trailers, you see objects that...I don't know, look like vases or urns, and you can't help but be reminded of the eggs from Alien, and how they were arranged. I don't think this is a coincidence, honestly. The trailers show that it seems something is discovered in or on one of these 'urns', and one of the characters who examines this seems to be 'infected' with something, and looks like he might go crazy, or murderous, or something. While this doesn't mean my theory is correct, I think it could be a hint of something. My point is, there may be an intentional parallel or symbolism between what may be discovered on the 'urns' and the concept of new life coming from an egg. And of course, as we know, while the xenomorph creature itself doesn't come directly from an egg, a host is 'infected' with a parasitic creature, implanting the alien embryo inside so it can gestate and then be 'born.'

In the new trailer, at 1:38, take a look at that. We don't know what it is exactly, of course; a sculpture or something on a wall or ceiling, but look what it resembles. However, note that it does seem to a little more human than how it would normally appear. At least, that's how it looks to me. It is kind of hard to tell what exactly it is you're looking at, but I think the implied image is pretty clear. Again, this doesn't prove my theory, but it may be a hint.

I think though that the biggest clue may be a very old one not in this trailer, but in the original Alien itself--[  You couldn't really see this in the movie, but the design of the original Alien does have a transparent 'skull cap' and inside, the front of its head....does have part of a human-looking skull. ] I always thought that was really fucking creepy when I learned this, whenever it was. Again, you can't really see this in the movie itself, but you can see it in official toys, models, statues, art work, etc. Now, I don't think Scott or anyone else had the idea of where exactly the original Alien came from at the time, and this design choice was probably meant to be more of a reference or homage to H.R. Giger's original art work. It may not be meant to be taken literally, especially if you couldn't see it in the movie. But well, since Scott originally decided to make an Alien prequel, and this movie clearly still is, I wonder if they decided to use this mostly forgotten element, or at least, it will make actual sense to those who have noticed it!

So, I don't know, what do you think?
