http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Star-Wars-Episode-I-Phantom-Menace-3D-Poster-Improves-Original-27301.html

   Feel the great disturbance in the Force, my young Jedi, as the poster for The Phantom Menace...in 3D has been revealed. The movie is coming February 10.

    Now the movie can suck in 3 dimensions (partially inspired by this shirt!)!

    The first thing I have to point out though is this article-writer opining that this poster 'improves on the original.' It absolutely does not. The original poster is by Drew Struhzan, and it's awesome work. This poster is a Photoshop hack-job, just like they did for other Star Wars video cover art lately. Why is Darth Maul the focus of this poster, anyway? And where's Anakin, who's, uh, kind of important in the movie, where Maul is rather just there? Oh. Is he....in his podracer, not really visible? Also, where are Qui-Gon and Padme? You could say it's good JarJar isn't there, and it's okay 3PO is missing, too, but Qui-Gon and Padme? Ugh...This is what I don't like about most movie posters in general these days; they're not art, most of the time. They're just photos, or bad Photoshop jobs, like this one. Drew Struhzan's is art; this one is not.

   Secondly, so, uh yeah, this will mark the beginning of Star Wars in 3D. I can't say I'm too excited, largely because I...don't care about 3D. I haven't seen any 3D movies as of yet; no, not even Avatar. But I didn't want to see Avatar in the movie house anyway, so...3D movies may be on the decline anyway, as there seems to be less interest in them, despite what James Cameron wants to force on you, and Sony isn't going to pay for the glasses for its movies anymore. But that's another story.

   From what I understand, movies that were not made especially for 3D, using some of this new technology, don't tend to be a very worthy experience (the Clash of the Titans redux, for example), so I'm not sure if Star Wars will be any better. Normally, I might suggest Revenge of the Sith might be good in 3D (yes, I like 'Sith.), but...I don't know. I probably won't end up seeing it anyway.

     So, uh yeah...Does anyone care? :P

Ugh, horrible...HORRIBLE!

The only thing that could redeem the series to me now is if they add the following scene:

Oh yeah. I've seen that! >D

...don't be surprised if Lucas does use that in whatever next set of changes he makes, probably for the 3D version, actually... -___-;

Now I'm feeling a disturbance in the universe, because George Lucas seems to be going to a new low. >_<

Eh, I don't think 3D is a 'new low' for Lucas; it's actually predictable for him. Same with this poster. Darth Maul not actually dying in this movie though, and then coming back,  now that I think you can argue is a 'new low'. But then again, since Lucas clearly doesn't care about Star Wars continuity anymore, and hasn't since he was working on the New Trilogy, I have to wonder if such a thing is really possible for him anymore.

I think 3D wasn't a big of a hit as companies expected (including some game companies...)  It's fun once in a while but there's no reason to change everything to 3D.

The thing is, a lot of

The thing is, a lot of companies, like Nintendo, and people, like James Cameron, are pretty much trying to force 3D onto people. 'THIS IS THE WAY OF THE FUTURE, AND YOU WILL USE IT. ' Cameron even said in a recent interview that "we're going to take in all of our entertainment in 3D and within five years we're going to be demanding it in 3D. If it's not, it's going to feel like it's in black and white." Wow. He....really thinks all people will be as excited about it as he is now, but current trends don't reflect that as happening. 5 years is a long time though (although also not really) and there's no way to know what will happen in that time. Will what Cameron says come true? I....doubt it; I can't imagine all people 'demanding' that everything be in 3D. That's...incredibly unlikely.

I also agree that there's no real reason to turn everything into 3D, and that's another thing people like Cameron don't seem to understand; a lot of things don't look good in 3D. I've mentioned elsewhere the Clash of the Titans redux, for example; ask anyone who saw it in 3D, they'd likely tell you it was terrible. Being filmed specifically for and in 3D probably does make a difference, and probably makes movies look 'better' than those not made for 3D but converted after the fact. And that's another thing; most movies in existence have not been made for 3D, obviously. If you did put them all into 3D somehow, most of them would probably not look good, and people wouldn't watch them.

Nintendo also seemed to think 3D would be 'the next big thing,' which for them, means 'gimmick to exploit,' and that didn't go over so well. Hell, the results of a study were recently released, indicating that 28% of 3DS users don't care about the 3D, 13% always turned the 3D off, and only 22% felt the 3D actually 'improved' gameplay. The 3DS hasn't gone well for a great number of reasons though, I think, but the lack of true obsession with 3D among most people is definitely a factor, I'd guess.

It's confirmed. In this 3D release of Phantom Menace, Darth Maul's death has been altered. He doesn't die.

I wish I could find the link I saw this morning. Reddit ran it off the front page too fast.
