Though my collection of SNES and Genesis games is rather robust and only serves to reaffirm my status as a big man, there are a lot of games from the 16-Bit era that I've never played. I was wondering if anybody out there is willing to suggest a few games I might want to look at for future reviews. I'll be sure to give them a try and see how good they are.

I'd say Lufia I & II,
The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang
Kirby's Dream Course
Oh man, Twisted Tales of Spike McFang. You've been reading my list. I loved that game back in the day - It's certainly coming at some point.
Kirby is always good for some fun. And though it may sound crazy, I've never played any of the Lufia games. I have no reason why not, I'm just a schmuck, I guess. I'll have to try them soon.

Hehe, there were also a couple others, but i can't remember the names.
Twisted Tales of Spike McFang sure was entertaining.
I could easily say the Breath of Fire series, but too much of the RPG genre already =P
Mario Kart. The original. It started an entire frachise of historic games in the Mario series.

MK was really popular though, i think the 16 bit gem is more like "not so/well known" games
Take "EVO" for example, I persoanlly never heard of it...
Illusion of Gaia, and Actraiser 1 (2 sucked, even though i was a glutton for punishment and beat it) for example, i have friends who never heard of em, and i played those games so much.
Roo... ever thought about Sim City ? :P
What i would really love to see a review being made off is Secret of Mana, but since that isnt a hidden 16 bit gem, i do have some other suggestions.
Terranigma and Equinox for example.
Or Desert Strike and Desert Fighter. I can still remember the day that my dad took me to the local game store to let me buy the first game when i was a wee lad only to find that he store owner brought out Desert Fighter instead of Desert Strike (because apparantly that is what i said then, damn exitement), which turned out to be a good blow-up-stuff-in-a-desert-setting game aswell.
And even though it has been said already, but i can also recommend Lufia II. Loved it when i played the dutch version back in the day.
True. MK was a little to popular. I should've thought of that

SimCity was perhaps my favorite game on the SNES until at least Link to the Past came out. Sadly, I think a lot of people may have played it... :)
Lufia II and Terranigma are also on the list. But you are right airblade, there are a lot of RPGs on the list (can you tell I'm a big fan of the genre?). That coupled with the fact that they take a long time to play through, record, write scripts for, edit... yeah, I wouldn't mind reviewing some lighter fare.
These are all good suggestions. Keep 'em coming, guys.

MMM yeah, RPG used to be my favorite genre until FF8(worst FF ever), and ff6 still my favorite game ever. Now I'm more into FPS, since I haven't played any good RPGs lately.
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Rock and Roll Racing
The Super Star Wars Trilogy
Pocky & Rocky
Roo, I have a question for you. I recently aquired an SNES. Besides all the games you have reviewed in your series, do you have any recomendations?

Well, I'm sure I'll miss some, but just glancing over at my collection...
There are a few more I can come up with, but they're coming up as 16-Bit Gems... so, gotta wait! The funny thing is that some of the games I really spent a lot of time with (SimCity, Civilization) can be played on the PC with a much better interface, and for free. Ah, progress.
What genre game do you most enjoy?

Theres no one genre I can lay down as my favorite. I mean, there are some I don't like. One thing I for some reason, don't enjoy is games that are realistic. I know it's not 16-bit, but my brother is addicted to COD Modern Warfare 2. I always found the thought of killing real people to be kind of sick. I think it's more fun when theres a completely new world to explore. Not something real. I play video games to get away from the real world.

i honestly dont know any 16-bit under-rated games or hidden games.the only one i know is earthbound (my favorite game and series), but thats already coverd.
How about Soul Blazer(prequel of Illusion of Gaia) or Romance of Three Kingdoms (back when i played this game I had no f-bomb clue of what to do in this game), but I still managed to do some crazy shit
Final Fight is one of my all time favorite beat em up games. It would be awesome if you reviewed it.
Just read this blurp off of gamefaqs : Mayor Mike Haggar vows to snatch the streets of Metro City back from the crooks with his bare knuckles! But the Mad Gear Gang snatches his daughter Jessica. Now there's gonna be some bone-crunching dues to pay!
Jessica's boyfriend Cody hits the streets hard with Haggar, denting heads downtown and slugging it out in the slums. He's a one man army! His weapons are anything he can find -- swords, knives, or pipes.
Now you're Haggar or Cody, each with his own fighting style. Demolish gangland henchmen, samurai swordsmen and musclebound crime bosses in a fist-to-nose frenzy!
If that doesnt seem like pure 90's awesome then I dont no what is.
I support this...however 16 bit gems is intended for lesser well known games (atleast that is my understanding). There is no denying the pure win that is final fight...but it's pretty well known. If you want to see beat'em ups, why not the arcade verison of ninja gaidan, I think a port was done for the genisis.
Hey Roo, if you like RPGs so much, where is the 7th saga love? That game was eberron before Eberron was Eberron...you know without the lighting rails, or the noir, or the city of towers...but they had warforged...ot taijtu...whatever they're called.
Strangely, I never played 7th Saga back in the day. Looking back now, the SNES really was quite a repository for RPG's, wasn't it? I'll certainly give it a whirl and a video if it's worthy (and I'm sure it is, considering I've heard so many good things).
I have so many other RPG's that I want to review, but those take so much longer to do, since they're generally long games. I have to intersperse them with the Ninja Spirits and Aladdins of the world.

I haven't thought about this until today, but how about 16-bit PC Games ? There's a couple good games that I remember playing. I'm surprised that no one mentioned it before.
Huh, I never thought of PC games as specifically 16-bit. Then again, I've always been more of a console gamer.
Any suggestions for PC games?

Depends on what you'd consider 16-bit pc gaming. :)
You could always check out the Atari ST as well and its repository since it was pseudo-pc gaming. Many of its games were multi-platform as well.
I'm sure you've heard of Dungeon Master, for example.
(You should check out Uncharted 2: New Horizons for the SNES, you won't regret it!)
Out of this world was good, but definitely weird.
I think I was just too dumb for Out of This World. Or maybe I just didn't have the patience. I also never got far in that or Prince of Persia for that matter (the old version).

The old prince of persia was sooooo good. Since you only have one hour to beat it, it might get on your nerves at first, but once you memorize the levels, it will be a walk in the park. I think that I first played it on my 486, good times.
Out of this world was a crazy mix of.... insert a 2d platfomer and "something weird"
I never got to beat it, and it really pissed me off cuz I didn't know what to do.
Out of this World drove me nuts with everything killing me on every screen. :(
^^
That sums what Out of this world was about :P
Well how about Terranigma? Wait, that's already been said before. I guess because I've been recently playing it a lot made me say it. Well anyways, how about Pulseman on the Genesis? Maybe Pocky & Rocky for SNES. Although I think it may or may not be an underrated game, maybe Super Double Dragon. I only mention that because I often see the original mentioned more than this game, and it's still one of my favorite beat 'em ups. Speaking of beat 'em ups, Magic Sword is another game I've played as a kid and still own that I love. Hope these are some good suggestions. I was trying to think of more RPGs, but it seems like they've already been mentioned or they're too popular :P. I could go into really obscure SNES RPGs, but I'm still trying to play most of the damn games so I wouldn't know anything about them.
^Pocky and Rocky, hell yeah.
Here's a list of a few SNES games you might want to check out:
Uncharted 2: New Horizons (A swashbuckling game of exploration, naval warfare, trade and drama on the high seas around Europe, Asia, Africa and the New World)
Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen (Deep strategy game where how you battle and do things determines whether you are a liberator or a dictator)
King Arthur's World (Lemmings with more control of your troops. Command archers, knights, wizards, etc)
Arcana (Very old-school 1st person RPG action)
Shadowrun (Cyberpunk RPG shooter)
Sunset Riders (Western action shooter)
UN Squadron/Area 88 (Awesome shmup)
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (Play with a friend for maximum rage)
Goof Troop (A GOOD Disney co-op game!?)
Legend of the Mystical Ninja (One of the best co-op games of all time)
Top Gear/Top Gear 2 (2 Player Retro-racing)
Robotrek (RPG with...robots)
Wonder Project J (Very unique game, unfortunately no commercial release in the US. There is a translation patch for it online. You guide and teach a robot boy how to do things to fulfill different tasks, from farming to fighting in a battle arena)
Metal Max Returns (RPG with customizable tanks)
I'm sure I can think of more later.
For the Genesis, you should check out Pirates! Gold, that game is awesome.
There you go, a small list of things, I probably repeated something somebody else said but the above are all games I really enjoyed.
Yeah, I think Terranigma has to be done at some point, what with all the suggestions for it...
Oh, and Kurara, thanks for mentioning Sunset Riders! I had been trying to remember the name of this game for awhile, and I just couldn't put my finger on it. Such a good game.
Also, you already mentioned a few games that are coming soon, so you'll just have to wait and see what those will be. :)

I'm looking forward to it. :)
Wow, I was going to play Top Gear right after Terranigma Kurara. Anyways, I think I should mention another game. Though again I don't know if it's really an underrated game. Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse for SNES. I definately think the 2 sequals (3 wasn't even released in America til the GBA I think) are underrated. Also, I've got to ask Roo. Would you be willing to do Japanese only games?
EDIT: nvm, Magical Quest 3 was never on GBA so it was never released in America.
Perhaps The Legend of the Mystical Ninja.
Well, I'll put it this way. I've already begun work up to some point on the next three episodes. #14 has already been mentioned in this thread, and #15 is a Japanese-only game. So there are the hints I'm willing to give out for now. :)

Kaboomie: If you like that game, check out Mickey and Donald's game on the SNES. I forget the name but it had plenty of outfits and co-op play. :)
Top Gear ruled! Especially the music.
Kurara: Are you talking about Magical Quest 3? Cause I've already mentioned that. I do also have another Mickey game that I just remember that would be perfect for 16-bit Gems. The Great Circus Caper was an excellent game I got for a birthday one year. Anyways, I've actually never played Top Gear but I am going to try it out once I finish Terranigma.
Ah, you're right. I had the Japanese version of the game so I had no idea what the name was.
There was a Donald Duck game as well, which was in Japanese as well, unfortunately. It had him completing a few random jobs to afford a gift or something, but then he's flung into another world. It was quite good but a bit odd.
I know that Sega did make a bunch of Mickey and Donald games on the Genesis and even did a Japanese only Sega Saturn compilation of some of them. The only ones that come to mind are Castle of Illusion and Quackshot.
Ooops, double post
Holy Shit Kurara... TOP GEAR!
That game was a masterpiece, I loved it, and I completely agree... the music was the shit, I remember playing the game just to listen to the music.
Good times...

I still remember raging later on in the game at the "Save the trees!" signs.
Now that was a good racing game, the music sure added lots of replay value. It was so much better having a second player.
I've got another question Roo. Are all your reviews just limited to SNES, Genesis or TurboGrafx-16 (assuming you're going to do more) games or just games that came out in the 16-bit era?
^16-bit era. I was thinking in some PC games.
Well would Game Boy or Sega Game Gear work?
Game Boy is 8-bit if I recall correctly.
Game Gear is probably fine.
game boy advance had 16-bit and low end 32 bit games on it.
the GBA had alot of 16-bit looking games
This was edited to remove bad information.
Orignally, it was meant to just encompass the SNES and Genesis, but I'm making the definition of "16-Bit" a little looser than I had been. I mean, technically, the TG-16 is 8-bit, but it has a 16-bit GPU, so I count that. The Neo Geo had architechture built off of 8, 16, and 24-bit processors, so I could count that too.
Gamy Boy was 8-bit, as Kurara said, as was the Game Gear. And the GBA was actually 32-bit. So I normally wouldn't do anything from any of those systems. Though never say never.

Oh jeez, I completely forgot a game I wanted to mention! Ristar on the Genesis. That would definately be a good review.
Hey Roo I got a question for ya. Can Japanese Super Famicom games work in a American Super Nintendo? Also, what can u tell me about the 4 Wu du?
No they cannot because the cartridges are different looking and won't fit in the American SNES. I think the PAL one is the same as the Japanese one but I have no idea.
