Does anyone remember when the Sci Fi channel was awesome? It's probably taken a while, but the channel has completely changed from what I remember enjoying.
I remember in the mid 90's coming home from third or fourth grade and sitting in front of the tv to watch stuff like Quantum Leap, old episodes of The Twilight Zone, Sightings and other various old sci fi shows and real life "I saw a ghost/alien." shows.
Now its just crappy made for tv movies.
Any memories of the old Sci Fi channel anyone want to share?

The movies suck, but the original series are fun to watch.
Warehouse 13 and Eureka are great.
I enjoy the original Ghost Hunters show (can't really get into the other spoin-offs). My wife, kids and I met Grant and Jason and they were really friendly, approachable guys.
Plus, there asre still reruns of shows like The Outer Limits, Star Trek:TNG, Star Trek Enterprise, The Twilight Zone and Stargate.
There is still decent programming on SyFy (hate the name change), they just need to stop making shitty movies.
With the exception of the mini-series productions of TinMan (a modern day Oz tale) and Alice (another modern day continuation) and anything with Bruce Campbell, I haven't seen any good SyFy original movies. To kind of clear up what I just said about those two mini-series, they acknowledge that the original stories took place, but many many years have passed and the worlds, saved by their respective heroines, have fallen into corruption and are again in need of saving.
I do love all of those shows, and yeah the movies are terrible, and not in the "so bad its good" way. And I need to look for those mini series. They sound cool.
I live in Rhode Island where the ghost hunter guys are (were?) Roto-Rooter guys. As far as I know, they're headquaters is still in Warwick. I see them all the time in Newport (lots of haunted stuff).
Instead of the shitty movies that they play now, why dont they play the awesome sci fi/horror "B" movies that they used to. Hell, I remember watching Back to the Future on the Sci Fi channel back in the day.
Can someone please explain why it is know called Syfy?

The official reason had something to do with branding and changing the name from "Sci-fi" to "SyFy" would allow them to capitalize on other genres of entertainment.
Outside of WWE NXT and SmackDown, they really haven't changed the lineup much.
However, the "Illiterate Masses of America" doo beeleave it iz cul 2 spel theengs rong.
Much in the same way that some people think that saying "vagina" is funny.
It still isn't.
Other than Trek and Twilight Zone reruns, I never watch this channel.

So I will put Syfy spelling under 'Internet spelling'.
Don't have Syfy in Canada but the SPACE network is the same thing except I don't think SPACE makes shows/movies. I have noticed the same thing with both station that the programming is reruns and has changed to match that of other channels.
I just went to check the schedule of SPACE and it is the same (Star Trek, Stargate, Supernatural) as when the last the I had access to a satellite dish that had that channel, which was five plus years ago. One can only watch reruns for so long.
As for Tin Man rented it thought it was a movie and watched it all in one evening which was a long evening, 3 or 4 discs that is saying something about Tin Man being a good show if you can watch it all at once.

Tin Man would have been better if there'd been another 20 freaking minutes to close the story. Such a fantastic buildup for a lackluster dénouement.
