Boomer's House Rules: Healing

Boomer takes you behind the Dungeon Master's screen in order to share some house rules for Dungeons and Dragons. You'll learn how to expand the rules and give yourself tools to create more drama and fun around the gaming table.

In this first edition, Boomer will explore healing, and how to introduce a dynamic that will leave your player characters feeling more bruised after big battles.

Healing

Good advice, Boomer!

One thing I have done, especially in the "one-nighters" I run is only give them back half of their total hit points on an extended rest. That way, it at least takes a couple of days to fully heal up if they have nearly died, and perhaps their characters will "take it easy" the following day.

Haha that is one thing that I find humorous about D&D altogether... I could be in a fight where a battle axe literally brings me one hit point away from death... and still the best medicine is a good night's sleep. Wake up the next day, and feel fantastic!

"Torrin, that eleven-inch axe wound from LAST NIGHT has healed up nicely!"
