D&D Microsoft Surface Demo - Hands On at PAX East 2010

We got a few moments to talk with the team from Carnegie Mellon that's been developing a Dungeons and Dragons tabletop that works with Microsoft Surface - Surfacescapes. They were very informative and also allowed us to play a short demo game that beat the hell out of drawing grid maps with pencil and paper.

PAX East 2010 Q&A Panels

As an extra, we have a couple of question and ansewr panels to share with you from PAX East.  First, Gabe and Tycho themselves answer a few questions, and have to deal with the horror of a drive-by text adventuring:

And second, a panel of all the musical guests who performed at the 2 concerts put on at PAX East.  Jonathan Coulton, MC Frontalot, Paul and Storm, The Protomen, Anamanaguchi, Metroid Metal, and the Video Game Orchestra.  Find out what makes the masters tick, and you might also hear an important announcement or two. (I'm looking at you, Coulton!)

Live from PAX East 2010: Day 3

We round out the last day with a leisurely stroll through the Arcade Game room and get our hands on the original classic video game. To wrap up the trip, we have a short slideshow set to an appropriate Jonathan Coulton song.

Live from PAX East 2010: Day 2

Breakfast with Joystiq, some Rock Band, running around the convention expo hall, some more Rock Band (in the Omegathon) and rounding out the day with a video game orchestra concert. Pretty full day on Saturday at PAX East.

Live from PAX East 2010: Day 1

Roo and the Commodore continue through the queue room of doom to begin the first day of the inaugural Penny Arcade Expo East. With excerpts from the excellent keynote speech by Wil Wheaton.

Live from PAX East 2010: Day 0

Hello all.  This weekend has been pretty much non-stop hysteria, but an absolute blast!  I probably did as much stuff as I did last year at Gen Con, but this time in 2.5 days instead of 4.  Don't worry, much video was taken, and I'll get those uploaded as soon as my laptop can go.  But sadly, due to some internet throttling issues at our hotel, that's not as fast as I'd like.

Fear not!  You'll see a steady stream of videos concerning our adventures at PAX East over the next few days, starting tomrrow evening.  But in the meantime, please let this appetizer whet your whistle.  It's basically a triplog of our day before the show began.  Why?  Because getting there is half the fun.  You know that.

First Thoughts - Star Trek: Online

After spending a few days of quality time with the Star Trek: Online open beta, Roo (our resident Star Trek nerd) gives his thoughts.  What's good?  What's bad?  And is it worth your time and wallet fodder?
