I've seen a few careers mentioned, but I'm curious as to what everyone does for themselves.
(Or if you're still in school, the level or something)
I'm a senior undergraduate student in a Classical Archaeology programme, though I used to work on a contractual basis in the computer programming world.

I'm a professional engineer in a consulting business.

I'm a grad student. As I mentioned before, i'm about half ways in getting a Masters in Translation Studies. I got my B.S. in Computer Science (which I hated to be honest) too boring for me. Found languages interesting and decided to get a Masters in something different.
Well, I work as a physicist, but I have this moviemaking hobby I do in my spare time. Perhaps you'd be interested... nah, never mind.

I'm recently unemployed, I worked for Borders/Waldenbooks for 4 years until they shut down 200 stores nation wide. I'm currently getting all my paperwork together to go back to school fora Computer Science degree (the B.A. cause I sux at mathz)
^^
Arkus, if you suck at Math, you should persue a degree in Computer Information Systems, CS has a lot of Math, and some of it is such a pain, you also have to deal with physics and algorithms.
SIU, offers a B.A. which is more of a business degree with a focus on computer languages and systems. It heavy on techincal math, which I can do.
The current goal is to gain enough capital to start a small business focusing on residental computer solutions.
I'm work at a restraunt as a waiter/busboy/cook.
I also work at the local teen center. We're actually organizing a gamer's league. It's gonna be fun!

The Gamers Leaugue works as follows, yes I organized myself
Each week we will play a diffrent genre of video games. Each player is limited to one game per genre. You will be faced up against 1 to 4 people (depending on the game) and if you win, you get 100 points. We will also have a SSBB tournament halfway through that if you get first, you get 300 points, as well ast getting second gets you 200 points and gettin third gets you 100 points. The two players with the most points at the end will face off in the finals. In the finals, each player will get to choose one game, which ever person wins 2 games first, wins. If each player wins once in the finals, I will choose several games for the losers/fans to choose from.
Genres include:
FPS
Classic
Startegy
Sports
and Nintendo

Well, at least now I know I'm not the only Mechanical Engineer on the boards. What kind of work do you want to Robostar?

I'm still a high school student and have no job. Man I feel so young now .-.. But some of the careers I want to pursue are possibly being a software designer or a chef. I guess maybe I need to work at a McDonalds first though or something.
@Cycopather: How is Nintendo a genre :\
A Software designer or a chef?
Wow, that is a pretty different pair of career paths. You may want to start as a line cook or something at a regular restaurant now while you're still a young'un.
Well if you think about it they're kinda similar. In software design you're making and designing software (obviously) and as a chef you're making and designing foods. I just want to create things that doesn't include extreme physical labor (although I could somewhat imagine having that for a chef but whatever). Oh and I'm also looking into video game design (is software design the same thing? not sure). I actually have many ideas for this game I've mentioned here once called Zinc Tides, but that's for another time I guess. Plus, I doubt I'd ever make the dang game in the near future.
Software design and cooking require vastly different skillsets, imo.
For computer programming you need to contend with abstract concepts and the application of mathemathics to fulfill a concept in a variety of ways whilst in cooking as far as I know you need a different skillset. Cooking likely needs a good culinary sense in what flavours are acceptable to different tastes and the such.
I feel so old writing this...KuraraII is dead on. If you have any interest in cooking, go ahead and start working in a restaurant. If you have any interest in software design, start programming now. Most jobs may seem like they have similarities...but once you do them...they really don't. The best way to deal with the naivete of youth is to get out there and start trying to do the things you think you might want to do. You'll find that doing something as a job is very different.
I hope I don't sound patronizing with this.

@Kaboomie
When I say Nintendo I don't mean it as a genre because there are so little first party Wii games that could easily be used for tournaments. Some games include Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Mario Bros.

Well I am taking Digital Design right now and Animation next year so I suppose that could teach me something about Software Design (although I'm not sure). I think actually I'm more into video game or multimedia design actually. I know being a video game designer is a fantasy like dream, but I'd actually like to try my hand in the field sometime.
@ Boomer, I wanna go into Robotics lol
@robostar: That's exactly what I want to do. My senior project was building a quadruped wall-crawling robot. Sadly, I am currently working in a Civil-Engineering firm trying to figure out how I can get back to school to I can try to get a job in robotics.
It may already be obvious to you, but while you are in school pick up a minor in CS and EE and you'll be very competitive.

im 22, graduating in May with a Math/Stat dual major. I'm thinking about going to grad school for statistics, as I'm enjoying that side of math more than linear algebra/calculus/real analysis/abstract algebra/etc.
Not true, @Hipermusic!
I'm a journalist. And I turned 27 a week ago.
I've worked for newspapers in Maine, South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Washington state and Florida. Right now I'm back home in Alabama (sadly) working for a local one. I've also worked for a radio station and a television news network.
