I've noticed that no one has started any topic on Kung Fu movies or anything related to that, so I think I'll be the first
Out of all of the Kung Fu movies you've seen what is your favorite?
I would have to say "Jackie Chan" in :
The Legend of Drunken Master
Not only is this one of my favorite Martial Arts movies but it has some of the best fighting i've ever seen before, with great fighting scenes in it
Thoughts? Opinions?

Quick internet search tell me that The Legend of Drunken Master is the sequel to Drunken Master which I own and it's in my backlog of VHS tapes to watch.
Kung Fu/Martial Arts films lack something for me but again it could because Hollywood use of it. For that reason when I saw a 4-Pack of Jackie Chan movies on VHS before he went Hollywood I decided to check them out.
Movies in said set: Rumble in Hong Kong, Drunken Master, Fantasy Mission Force, Master with Cracked Finger. Will come back here after I watch them, which might be sooner than later since it should be good for me to brake my Minecraft addiction.
Edit: Can not watch Drunken Master it's subtitled and the English subtitles are partially below the bottom of the screen and when there is a long line of text the text also goes belong the left and right of the screen.
Edit: Sooner than I thought since I could not watch the other three movies they are that bad.
So as for non-Hollywood Kung Fu/Martial Arts films can not say, but will add way I don't like Hollywood's ones. The use of wires to perform stunts takes something away from the move.

Jet Li is a dynasty ousting revolutionary, needn't I say more?

That's a really tough question and I'm going to have to break it up with 2 answers I think.
To go more classic, I've always been a sucker for Enter the Dragon.
In more recent cinema though, I actually really enjoyed The Forbidden Kingdom. Jackie Chan and Jet Li fight sequence? How awesome is that?

I see we have another fan of The Forbidden Kingdom! That was a good movie, I was glad seeing Jackie Chan do what he does best, I need to buy that movie
Also is it just me or did he MAKE The Karate Kid, I mean if he wasn't in there then that movie would have been crap

It was a bit cheesy, but I loved it when he was just sitting there with the chopsticks and the fly buzzing around.

Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky
Not the best martial arts movie, but the funniest I have seen, which makes it the best IMO
oooh this is a tough one, My Dad was a Competitive Tae Kwon Do fighter from his early 20's untill his mid-late 30's and I watched a LOT of Kung-Fu/ martial arts movies with him growing up so there's a lot for me to choose from.
I'd have to say my two favorites are: Enter The Dragon and The Chinese Connection.
Enter the Dragon because it's just so epic and I could watch it a million times and never get tired of it, and Chinese Connection because I think it's a cool story.
Classic Kung Fu movie that is my favorite would have to be Enter the Dragon, there's just something about how cheesy that movie is that I love. I think it has to do with the main theme that gets played like 20 times in the first 40 minutes then is missing for the rest of the movie.
Also Ip Mann is fantastic I still shudder at a certain fight scene, everything's we choreographed a sort of flowing brutality.

Difficult to say. I have been watching Kung Fu movies since basically forever. I would have to say its a toss up between
36 Chambers of Shaolin, The Ong Bak series, White Lotus and Power Kids (A Thai version of 3 Ninjas but better).
Black Dynamite

hands down
Kung Fu Hustle was good, but I actually prefer Shaolin Soccer.
Hero is another of my favorites, I really liked the visuals and the Rashomon-style plot (I'm a sucker for that sort of thing).
Hmm well I really like Jackie Chan's Drunken Master. In terms of straight martial arts I think I prefer Jet-Li's Legend. The Ip Man movie was really good too, so were the Ong-Baks if you want to talk Martial Arts in general instead of just Kung Fu. I think the Karate Kid remake (AKA The Kung Fu Kid in China) was pretty good to if you look at it as an hommage instead of a remake.
I think overall I'll have to say Kung Fu Hustle for my favorite though, it had a lot of action, and a lot of comedy, and is an all-around entertaining movie even if you aren't a martial arts fan.
I can't choose one, so I'll just do my top three :)
1) Jackie Chan's Project A: Such a great movie with such a "tounge-in-cheek" story. I especially love seeing Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao together in one flick. It's awesome.
2) Wheels on Meals (Jackie Chan): Another great example of a movie that doesn't really take itself seriously yet has some of the best fight choreography and humour of any movie I've ever seen.
3) Enter the Dragon (Bruce Lee): Bruce Lee is just the man. I love watching this movie cause it's sole purpose is to show off how awesome Bruce Lee is.

That's not a sin right?
Enter the Dragon
Jet Li: Once Upon a Time In China I, II, and III and Fist of Legend, a remake of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury (my favorite choreography for Jet Li is in this one.)
Jackie Chan: I really liked Legend of Drunken Master, Police Story and Operation Condor (Was that the one he got the hole in his head while making?)
Anything with Cynthia Rothrock in it.
Ummm...Surf Ninjas *blushes*
I agree with Male White Mage I think all the wires are ruining martial arts films and killing the genre in the US. Think of Romeo Must Die, did Jet Li really look all that much different or more skilled during his wire sequences than Drew Barrymore did in hers in Charlie's Angels? And THIS IS JET FREAKING LI WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HERE! Hollywood must agree too because they are hiring less and less actual martial artists for action movies and substituting more and more mainstream actors with proven box office drawing power in roles they would have previously maybe taken a chance with an international martial arts star on. Why not? They can make up the difference in actual skill with wires, cgi and camera tricks.
I keep seeing ads for some new martial artsish movie that Hollywood is putting out, Bunraku, it stars Woody Harrelson, Josh Hartnett and Demi Moore FFS. Not exactly people known for their background/prowess in martial arts. Bob Freaking Barker has more real life martial arts cred than any of these people. At least he took lessons from Bruce Lee. Ack. =(
I don't mind wires when they are being used to show the "mystical" or "mythical" prowess attributed to some legendary folk heroes, but that is not what Hollywood is using them for. They are using them so that they can hire some model or famous actor with zero martial arts background and slap them into the starring roles of martial arts themed action films without forcing them to undergo extensive training and making up the difference with special effects "magic". It sucks. And the genre is suffering because of it.

I think wires are an essential part of kung-fu movies... now wait and hear me out!
As I said earlier, I do enjoy both classic and modern kung fu flics. But wire-fu's been around a long timeI off the top of my head first thing that comes to mind is 'Master of the Flying Guillotine' from the mid 70's
Is it cheasy? Yes.
Can it be good? Yes.
When is it BEST used? In visual storytelling and heavily artisitic / mystic pieces
(like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon).
Do I want to see it all the time? Of course not.
It's not fair to say that wires are ruining the genre, as the wires have a long seated tradition in the genre. Hollywood's what's ruining the genre.

Yeah, I remember watching old movies like that with my Dad, and I TOTALLY don't mind wires when they are used to approximate the "mystical" powers attributed to legendary figures from folk lore, or anything in that same vein in modern martial arts films. I really liked both Crouching Tigger Hidden Dragon and House of Flying Daggers. Like if they made a live action Ninja Scroll, I wouldn't mind the use of wires to show the Koga ninjas running through the treestops. But that is soooo not what Hollywood is using them for. =(
I am perfectly willing to accept narrowing my statement to "Hollywood is ruining the genre in the US." But I think it is the WAY Hollywood uses wires in martial arts films that bear the lion share of the responsibility for that.
